It widely known that they have them, but they refuse to say how many or agree to nonproliferation. Their nuclear program is why JFK was assassinated.

The reason they will not acknowledge it is because they do and the US is violating its own laws still supporting them.

*current U.S. nonproliferation laws already bar aid to countries that possess nuclear weapons without formally acknowledging them

The UN appointed a Russian to lead the office for landmine removal. Makes sense, since they placed so many landmines in Ukraine.🙄

What's next? North Korea leading nonproliferation? The Taliban leading human rights?

Or maybe Trump leading women's rights?

Absolutely ridiculous.

I don't really understand the people thinking an AI pause/slow is impossible, nuclear nonproliferation and slowdowns have a lot of precedent and you can't just measure those as power in (observing power plants, petroeum reserves, etc) vs heat out (measured by satellite, also catches NPP power level)

nonproliferation died whimpering over at least a decade ago, reality is just catching up.

but like nuclear nonproliferation is at the point where people now do it as a hobby in the armscontrolwonk slack, pooling money to buy maxar satellite imagery and using blink comparitors to see which trucks move or were/weren't there before

Yes Marco use an argument that undermines a constant nonproliferation policy of US.
🇺🇸🇺🇦 Marco Rubio:

I don't know if negotiated peace is achievable in Ukraine. That's what we're trying to find out.

I don't think anyone here is claiming that we are on the verge of a negotiated settlement.

Russia possesses a large number of nuclear weapons. Perhaps people don't remember that.

For the nerds, Israel is not a member of the NPT. But the TPNW exists and represents a massive body of state opinion that such threats are illegal and immoral. Nuclear use will drive a massive new wave of proliferation and destroy the nonproliferation regime.
Terrifying rumors are swirling about Israel pressuring Trump to launch a nuclear strike on Iran immediately after the midterms or some other major escalation. I wish I was sure that this was too unhinged to take seriously, but we do not live in sane times where these kinds of dismissals are possible

The American “justice” system isn’t designed to successfully prosecute billionaire criminals.
They’ve stolen billions.
Better to just let the Iranians take them and do as they please in exchange for signing a nuclear nonproliferation agreement and permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz.

Military action against Iran's nuclear program may set back timelines, but it does not erase decades of technical expertise or political motivation. Sustainable nonproliferation will require altering Tehran's strategic calculations, not just targeting its facilities.
