sadly none of these locations are near me but for the rest of you noreasters, heads up
My favorite Seattle-based klezmer band is doing an East Coast tour, with dates in Boston, Northampton, Brooklyn, Philly, Baltimore, and Washington.

no more noreasters i am going to get that fucking groundhog

My office was near there. After a couple of noreasters I found seaweed in the parking lot after the storm tide receded. With climate change that area doesn't have long before it will need to be evacuated.

Noreasters in September aren't that normal tho

It's because when we have few or no major hurricanes in the Atlantic, it's means severe noreasters are coming later.

3 feet of ice that doesn't fully melt until the following JULY. Blizzards dropping just as much snow on top of the ice from the previous storm.

Storm of the century type scenario.

This is only tangential to climate change, but it makes me so sad because IDK the beauty of snowstorms (especially not the big crazy noreasters just a good snowstorm) is there were a mostly non destructive way to remind us that like nature's in control. And I do think tech has hit a point where like

MRG grad students Annabelle Horton and @mackenzieweaver.bsky.social gave talks on their Nor'easter research at the New Jersey Climate Change Research Symposium at Rutgers. Their talks are very relevant since NJ is vulnerable to the damages Nor'easters bring.

Lastest post of my new science-writing gig. 🧪https://phys.org/news/2025-07-analysis-reveals-powerful-noreasters-storms.html
Analysis reveals powerful nor'easters, the 'perfect storms' of the Atlantic, are intensifying
Nor'easters are powerful and often destructive cyclonic storms that primarily impact the East Coast of North America. Some of these weather events have been so fierce that they earned the names "Perfe...

something irrational inside me hopes that someday i get to experience another 2+ foot blizzard here in pgh like we had multiple times in philly as a kid. not being in the bullseye of noreasters out here makes that harder but it's happened before...

A lot of May and June saw spring Noreasters which was not a thing. As the difference in temperature between the arctic and our region decreases, the jet stream is starting to do some funky things including establishing what is normally a winter pattern. It is climate change happening

For sure. We obviously rely a lot on NOAA info for our own forecasts of hurricanes, noreasters and conditions at sea.

Are you comparing low density, low weight restriction roads in regions with milder climates to the most densely populated, highest traffic roads that suffer noreasters?

It's Noreasters that get us here at 'the bottom' of Lake Huron. The normal prevailing winds nail Northeast Ohio, where I grew up.

I have been wearing sandals all summer (for the first time! I mean ive had them but i only wore them at home mostly). but the noreasters come soon
September 17, 2025 at 1:18 PM
We only get threats of "noreasters"
December 4, 2024 at 12:54 PM
I get green grass moments for the PNW too and honestly, the weather is what I love about my city. Thunderstorms, noreasters, stupid high heat index summer days. but also autumn leaf turning, spring blossoms, and cicadas

It's such a cool biome to live in.

Noreasters seem hard to predict and NWS is typically on the conservative side with these. Their latest maps have Boston at between 3 and 15 inches, so there is probably still a lot of uncertainty.
February 21, 2026 at 4:24 AM
They don't bring any cool, they come from the coast or west of here, that's REALLY HOT... we need northerly winds or noreasters to knock the humidity down.. come on, wind, change directions!! Lol

Sounds like you live in a more mild place than I do. The coastal storms and Noreasters we get in winter can be brutal.
December 6, 2025 at 3:56 PM
Agree with you on the sea part. I'm further from it now and miss it. Except during winter storm season. Noreasters are brutal for the shoreline
