This SPARC Europe webinar will explore the latest policy developments at the EU level and the key role that the research community, libraries, and institutions can play in shaping the future of open access scholarly communication. Chaired by Vanessa Proudman, this event rounds off SPARC Europe’s campaign to accelerate Europe’s transition to full Open Access “Getting to 100% Open Access” (#OA100). The session will open with insights from Stephen Wyber, Lead of the KR21 Programme at IFLA, providing the policymaker perspective on the forthcoming ERA Act reform. This will set the stage for a broader dialogue on the opportunities and challenges the ERA Act presents for the open access landscape. Next, SPARC Europe’s Board Chair, Ms Iva Melinščak Zlodi, librarian at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), University of Zagreb, and Mr Alex Fenlon, Head of Copyright & Licensing at the Library of University of Birmingham and co-chair of the Copyright & Legal Matters Working Group at LIBER will address some of the necessary areas where action on a European level is needed for 100% open access via the ERA Act. Whether you are directly involved in policymaking or working to advance open access within your institution, this webinar will help define some of the remaining challenges and obstacles to 100% OA that can best be dealt with on a European level. We will discuss how we can engage with these European efforts.
