I read the "Temple of the Frog" from Blackmoor for oDnD. A few thoughts...

Fun concepts showing there wasnt a between scifi/fantasy then. (Karl Edward Wagner's Bloodstone, written in the 60s, published in 75 has some loosely shared concepts).

2) Ill agree with reviews of the time. It kinda sucks.

Lovingly spiteful theoryslop question for OSR people. I have been told one of my projects is not OSR because it’s not ODND compatible.

If I include rules for converting everything in ODND as a part of the game’s mechanics, is it then ODND compatible, and therefore OSR?

We didn’t seem to be getting anywhere, so I told him goodbye and hung up.

Theres also, like, 5 different printings of dnd by different authors with minor tweaks. Different groups swear by one over the other, even within the odnd scenes its fun to read them argue lmao

I think continuing to work under the banner/within the confines of the amorphous blob of expectations that comes with "OSR" is useful and good and I wouldn't want to drop it entirely. We're on like, wave 4 or 5 of this "movement" and at this point the Revival is reviving wave 1 instead of just odnd

If you want that kind of idea, I recommend trying to "theorycraft" a dungeon dive in oDnD or ADnD, with a party of ~lv3 human fighters (and maybe rangers and rogues). That'd be the closest you could simulate this from, I think. No barbarian, paladin and monks as those have more extraordinary powers.

A side effect of my ODnD high lethality Tynes-inspired approach to combat is that a straight Fighter becomes an absolutely terrifying person.
At level 3 you're slaughtering 3 Kobolds a round like it was NOTHING, and other classes are still fighting for their life.
Fighters are now Spec-Ops.

in D&D i almost don't NEED to b/c so much of the assumptions of time-tracking are baked in. you gotta spend rations to spend time travelling overland; in the dungeon you either track everything in approximated combat rounds based on distance (5e) or exploration turns (odnd), so distance = time

An image of the original yellow four sided die that came with the basic Dungeons and Dragons boxed game. It was triangular and if you stepped on one it hurt a lot more than Legos. So, there is a running joke that it's very dangerous. Next to the d4 in the image is an original green eight sided die.
