#OUaTitW
I have Arrow UK's trilogy release (which I found overall superior to Kino's) and the 4Kult edition of OUATITW, so I'll be skipping this, but huzzah if an improved experience watching West in 4K will be available to US buyers.

I think it's far to say a lot of them are either shit or fairly fun if enjoyed ironically on the provision that you can stomach the shitty treatment of women in them. I think that's fair criticism.

However, I stand by OUaTitW, Hard Times and Majestyk, I think they're unconditionally great.

*fingers crossed for a new OUaTitW transfer*

Maybe this means Paramount would license OUATITW to Arrow and I won’t have to.

Looking at some of the discoure from my fellow mathematicians, I find myself thinking of (and empathising with) the dialogue between Frank and Harmonica just before their final duel on OUATITW

There's a glorious shot of the dying Lincoln which Ford shoots through curtain net, which I'm convinced - probably wrongly - influenced Leone's Frank/Jill shot in the train in OUATITW.

1966 alone saw the release of four of the greatest spaghetti westerns ever made and possibly the best wuxia movie ever made. Then in '68 you get OUaTitW, 2001, The Great Silence, Night of the Living Dead, and Kuroneko?!?

And let's be honest. Hitch took the everyman, Jimmy Stewart, and made him unlikeable in #RearWindow and Vertigo. It's not on par with Leone casting Henry Fonda in OUATITW but it's in a similar vein.

I love a lot of westerns; OUATITW is right up there, I love RED RIVER more than RIO BRAVO. But above all I love THE SEARCHERS.

I hated Wayne when I was a kid, but one look at "The Searchers" and "Rio Bravo," changed my life.

As for Leone, show me another director who in 8 movies, created a genre all his own. OUATITW is in my all time top 20.

At times, Leone stretches out a dramatic moment beyond its elastic limit, and sometimes his dialogue drags in that way that Tarantino likes to imitate. There are some incredible sweeping shots that recall OUATITW and, like that movie, a recurrent traumatic memory that reveals itself bit by bit 4/5

One of the things that really struck me yesterday was the incredible close-ups in OUATITW, you can see every day under the unforgiving sun on the faces of Bronson, Robards, and Fonda

Curiously I’ve just bought the DVD after watching Once Upon a Time In The West and reading that Leone wanted to make OUATIA but the studio demanded another western first so he had to make OUATITW.

I think the opening to OUATITW and the scene in UNFORGIVEN where two of Gene Hackman's deputies argue over whether they'd rather be shot on a hot day or a cold day is what started my love for "what do goons do when they're *not* trying to kill the hero" scenes.

i go back and forth between TGTBTU and OUATITW and Rio Bravo

I remember an interview where Henry Fonda explained how he turned up for the first day of filming OUATITW with dark contact lenses. Sergio Leone immediately asked him to remove them; he wanted Fonda’s blue eyes…
Hence the closeup reveal in Fonda’s first scene, so the audience is given a WTF moment…
Henry Fonda's against-type role as the villain in Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).

I can never decide which I love more Sergio’s OUATITW or Sergio’s My Name Is Nobody.

Thanks for the tip on Johnny Guitar, that’s a new one on me.

Can't choose one:
-Pino Donaggio Brian De Palma scores [Body Double, Dressed to Kill, etc]
-TV show but Drew Neumann Æon Flux
-Angelo Badalamenti's David Lynch scores
-Basil Poledouris's Paul Verhoeven scores
-Danny Elfman Spider-Man and Batman scores
-Bernard Herrmann Vertigo

Name your fav movie score or soundtrack.

“Ahhh…the good old days…” — OUATITW

There’s a clip in a documentary of this time, a brief pan of the US Embassy. There’s a guy, jetted in under a 1” deep flimsy-assed cover to run recon & establish new safe-houses. Outside the system.
He’s standing near a SAVAK guy that was actually MOSSAD...

I agree. I think there’s a real sense of loss running through it, each scene a kind of living eulogy for the characters onscreen and how they’re impacted by events - a vibe that Cimino nails really well in Heavens Gate too. Distinct from nostalgia, it’s more akin to what Leone managed in OUATITW

OUaTItW is the only film i'd say achieves the same effect on film as opera does on stage.

I think I enjoyed The Good, The Bad and The Ugly more than OUATITW, but it’s a close one.
Also watched DJANGO recently. That one was excellent.

Anyway, I watched Once Upon a Time in the West for the first time ever last night.

I adore well-done westerns and will be watching many more. But it is wildly difficult at times to stomach the misogyny. OUATITW was no different there unfortunately.
