I went to Costco earlier today and I'm still exhausted.

People everywhere, queues of overstuffed shopping carts, and little oases of free food.

I believe American nostalgia elevates certain decades as particular oases of calm and innocence amid turmoil. These "happy decades" fall every 30 years -- the 1890s, 1920s, 1950s, and 1980s.

Thus, the 2010s will likely become the next one. That idea seemed absurd to me at the time, yet now...
