That is all that's happening here and, in a healthy media environment, would be clearly communicated to readers. Instead, the NYT obfuscates and fear-mongers about these utterly routine features of medical practice for children.

Hey, professional writer here:

"Defying legal limits" = vague, obfuscates meaning

Try "breaking the law" instead.

The 8:30p tipoff will tip off at 8:49p. I’m not sure what the NBA obfuscates more — player injuries or ESPN game times.

Schiff asks if Bove told DoJ lawyers "the planes need to take off no matter what" and Bove obfuscates again saying he doesn't recall. Bove knows that an handful of people can testify to the contrary, so Bove is playing games with Schiff.

Why are you deliberately framing this in a way that obfuscates the truth and makes it seem like he's lying when he's not?

The very important Editing Process at the NYT needs to make sure it very carefully obfuscates anything that could be considered bad for Our Special Boy

If you get nothing else from this book, calling them “plantations” obfuscates what they really were: slave labor camps.
If you want a deep dive on the subject, I learned so much from this book

Vance is going to try to weasel out of his relationships with extremists and conspiracists after riding their online movement to power. It’s up to media (including especially independent media) to keep these relationships in the public’s eye - even as Vance inevitably obfuscates.

Passive voice obfuscates responsibility for actions.

That's why journalists should avoid it 99% of the time.

Like this lede: She "was hit." But it was an officer who shot her, not a rogue rubber bullet that autonomously took flight and slammed into her.

As a related example: "AI is useful for note taking" obfuscates the fact that we had non-LLM based speech to text for a very long time, and the LLM ones are considerably worse
I feel like a lot is called "AI" that is really just an Expert System. And calling it "AI" is just buzzwords at this point.

Legit seen OCR being called "AI". Like...

Look at the sentence after the highlight: "Prominent conservatives, moderates and liberals have all been victims in recent years."

But that entirely obfuscates the real issue: not the victim pool, but the perp pool. Who is COMMITTING these crimes, and why won't you tell us, @nytimes.com ?
It's worth asking why every elite institution is issuing statements like this rather than pointing out the obvious fact that the institutional right commits and glorifies violence far more than the left. Is there a reason you feel you can't say that out loud?
