Happy birthday, Martina! 🎉🌊

Decades with the Big Island's manta rays and she still lights up like it's her first swim. In her words: "I'm trying to be infectious with my passion. So, be infected." 💙

Madagascar and Belize join global push to put women at the centre of ocean conservation
Women Ocean Guardians gather in Mombasa, Kenya for the Africa regional meeting. Across the world, there are now 75 women ocean guardians from 33 countries. Credit: WCS/Kang-Chun Cheng. The Women Ocean Guardians Initiative, global public-private partnership that places women at the forefront of ocean conservation and the sustainable use of marine resources within formal decision-making systems, has announced that two more governments, Belize and Madagascar, have pledged to integrate women’s leadership into national marine conservation strategies and blue economies. These countries, which made this pledge at the UN Biodiversity Conference (CoP17), have joined 14 other governments which have made the same commitment. The CoP17 Women Ocean Guardians event marks a milestone for the global initiative: achieving over 50 signed commitments of support, including 16 governments and more than 30 partners, all uniting to elevate the voices of frontline women in ocean governance. None of this would be possible without the courage and collective leadership of 75 women ocean guardians from 33 countries. “Belize has always punched above its weight in marine conservation,” said Orlando Habet, Belize Minister of Sustainable Development & Climate Change, “but our success has never been an accident of geography—it is the result of the dedication, wisdom,...

Launch of "Caribbean Biological Corridor's 30x30 Plus Marine Action Plan" Marks Major Milestone in Multi-Country Ocean Conservation
YEREVAN, ARMENIA (October 27, 2026) — In a decisive move to address the critical ecological connectivity gap in global ocean conservation, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the Caribbean Biological Corridor (CBC) today launched the "CBC 30x30 Plus Marine Action Plan," an ambitious multi-country framework to protect marine biodiversity and critical ecosystems across the Greater Antilles region of the Caribbean. The plan was launched at the UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD ,COP17) in Yerevan, Armenia, during a high-level side event at the Ocean Pavilion, "Connected Seas, Collective Action: Making 30x30 Count," with government representatives from the Greater Antilles. The plan leverages the CBC as a vital subregional governance and cooperation platform to transform isolated marine protected areas into a cohesive, ecologically connected regional seascape. The initiative, supported by partnerships with the Wildlife Conservation Society, UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), and REV Ocean, seeks to demonstrate how South-South cooperation, shared science, and innovative conservation finance can deliver durable ocean ecological integrity and ensure the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) Target 3 (“30x30”) is effectively met. “The ocean knows no borders, and neither should our conservation efforts,” said Pamela Castillo, 30x30 Marine Director at WCS. “Progress toward global marine 30x30...
