#OceanCurrents
Ocean currents move heat, nutrients and life around the planet.

What looks chaotic is a system in motion.

Ocean Heat Content is increasing faster in two bands around the globe according to a new detailed study. In both hemispheres the warming areas are near 40º latitude and the tropics where it is modulated by El Niño cycles.

Melting ice is slowing down the deep ocean circulation around Antarctica. This system of deep currents, known as the Antarctic Overturning Circulation, plays a critical role in regulating Earth’s climate by absorbing carbon dioxide and distributing heat. #climatechange #oceancurrents #oceans #auspol
Antarctica is undergoing abrupt changes which most likely will significantly intensify in the future. Caused by climate change, they span ice sheet, sea ice, ocean & life itself .
These changes are a clarion call to all of us, ‘cause what happens in Antarctica affects us all. 1/
From sea ice to ocean currents, Antarctica is now undergoing abrupt changes – and we’ll all feel them
The vast ice of Antarctica has long seemed impregnable. But sudden changes are arriving – from shrinking sea ice to melting ice sheets and slowing ocean currents.

A new study adds weight to the argument that the north Atlantic Cold Blob is indeed due to a slowdown of the AMOC, rather than atmospheric factors such as aerosol pollution.
