Bust image of my OC Beck Wiles. She’s a tomboy with Warm, nearing tawny, medium brown skin. Her umber brown hair is short in a vaguely messy style with bangs that are pushed towards the right. Within it are lighter brown streaks of highlights. Her eyes are a very pale greenish gray in color. She had a lip ring on the bottom right side of her lip that is attached via chain to an earring hidden by her hair. The bottom left side of her lip as a ball piercing =. She’s biting on a guitar pick that she’s holding with her left hand which features a solid gold band ring on her index and middle finger. She sports a black choker paired with a cross on a black necklace string. She’s wearing a white button up thats messily unbuttoned and has black, suspender like straps that run over her shoulders. She is holding the neck of a bass guitar in her right hand.

See Food. I was raised with strict table manners and this just does not pass. An #OceanicWhiteTip chewing with it a mouth open. Atrocious.

This image captures a close-up underwater view of an oceanic whitetip shark (Carcharhinus longimanus) with its mouth wide open, showing its gills and rows of sharp teeth. The shark is swimming in clear, deep blue ocean water, with sunlight filtering through the surface above. In the background, divers can be seen observing or photographing the shark, giving a sense of scale and highlighting the shark’s size and power. The scene vividly conveys the intensity and majesty of this open-ocean predator in its natural environment. Photo Credit: Gregory Rothman 2025

The picture shows a large shark with a broad, rounded snout and long pectoral fins swimming close to the camera. Its dorsal fin and pectoral fins are tipped with white, which is how the species gets its name. The shark is swimming calmly in clear, deep blue water. Below it, a freediver with fins, a wetsuit, and a large underwater camera rig is capturing the moment. The diver looks tiny compared to the shark, emphasizing its size and presence in the open ocean. Sunlight filters down from the surface, adding shimmer to the shark’s sleek body. About the Oceanic Whitetip Shark • The oceanic whitetip is a powerful pelagic predator, once considered one of the most common large sharks in the open ocean. • It is known for its long, rounded fins tipped with white, making it easy to identify. • Historically, this shark was incredibly abundant—in the 1960s and 70s, populations were estimated in the tens of millions worldwide. • Due to overfishing and especially the demand for shark fins, populations have suffered catastrophic collapse. • Today, their numbers have declined by more than 90–95% in many regions. In the northwest Atlantic, studies estimate the population is now less than 1% of what it was in the mid-20th century. • The IUCN Red List now classifies the species as Critically Endangered.

I painted this illustration of an oceanic whitetip shark for a good friend of mine. While researching I learned that sharks don’t have bones - it’s all cartilage aside from their teeth 🤯

Illustration of an oceanic whitetip shark. They’re known for their rounded, white tipped fins and aggressive behavior. They are often shown with a group of pilot fish who will live with them for life - the fish find the shark snacks and the shark offers the fish protection. This was painted in procreate and no AI is ever used in my art.

An oceanic whitetip followed us towards the end of our dive at Elphinstone Reef and stayed with us as we waited to surface. A calm moment with a pelagic predator.

Pushing the boundaries for myself in a new medium. THIS Oceanic Whitetip with Pilot Fish was only about my fourth illustration using watercolors (on cold press paper). Still one of my favorites.

El tiburón oceánico, robusto y curioso, es muy agresivo cuando se alimenta. Pero tiene un aspecto que nos hipnotiza. Uno de mis tiburones preferidos. Carcharhinus longimanus.
