Back to more familiar territory to end the evening, Jim McEwan's Octomore. First a lovely, juicy ex-bourbon followed by some dark red fruit wine cask. #whisky

When I finished my PhD, my lab gifted me a bottle of Bruichladdich Octomore scotch, the nicest bottle I'd ever owned. I nursed it for 6 years and only finished it off on my wedding day.
I now have a new one, because a recent development deserved a similar celebration: I've been awarded tenure!

Once I start down the Octomore rabbit hole I just keep going. These two are similar ppm values but apart from the smoke not much alike. The Virgin oak is spicy sweetness whereas the 10yo is dried fruit, a seaside rock and waxy walnuts. #whisky

Ending the bank holiday weekend with Octomore 10 yo. 167 PPM and 56.8% ABV. Despite the high PPM it’s a great balance of smoke and sweet.
