Old Sarum is an iron age hill fort, dating back to c400 BC, that was the original site of what later became Salisbury. It was continuously occupied during the Roman period and a mint was recorded there in 1003. #EnglishHeritage #OldSarum

#OTD 1226 William Longespee's funeral procession made its way from #Salisbury Castle to the new @salisburycathedral.bsky.social which was still under construction. His tomb, originally in the newly consecrated east end, was moved to the nave in the C18th.

Massive fire at #OldSarum has gutted a #WW1 hangar & looked to be spreading to airfield cafe. Firefighters had to go to Lysander Rd & The Portway to connect to hydrants. Go Skydive staff managed to rescue some of their kit. BDAC #museum appears ok.🤞

Stunning Salisbury Cathedral, mostly built between 1220 & 1258. Cathedral originally located at Old Sarum, within the castle site, before tensions led to its move. As well as some very fine tombs, it also has tallest church spire in England #salisbury #salisburycathedral #cathedral #oldsarum
