Hey there #HeatedRivalry folks, just wanted to drop a line and add to the soup of discourse around #OpalApparition and #Wolfbird that myself and several others have discovered from examining OA's pre-HR works that she plagiarized at least (probably more) authors and passed them off as her own works

lrp OpalApparition marked “NO AI” all over her ao3 but there she was, using it. When people first started accusing her, I supported her. I didn’t read her HR fic but we were friends. She would never! There were many chances for her to cop to her lie of not using it. She never took a single one.

And for having me, a friend OpalApparition knew to be totally against genAI in fandom and creative work… edit several chapters of fanfic she was reworking to publish, never disclosing that meant I would be refining thousands of words of text she had, AT MINIMUM, fed into and processed through AI.

I am active in other fandoms, and I have been reading and writing fanfic for years. I have gone through heartbreaking ends of friendships started in fandom. I have been hit by a romantic partner. I don’t talk to my parents.

No one has ever betrayed my trust as horribly as OpalApparition has done.

A prolific Heated Rivalry author was caught using Claude. They left AI artifacts in the markup.

On June 29, a twitter account posted a short explanation that text copied from Claude and pasted directly into ao3’s text field brings a trace of html with it. OpalApparition had just a few of those artifacts in one HR story, but they are proof. And she has confessed significant AI use beyond them.

I said I’d be out for blood, so yeah, let’s be about that. It’s been a month since Claude code remnants proved OpalApparition used AI and lied about it. She has made no public statement to clarify the situation.

She appears to have decided to answer fanmail instead.

OpalApparition used AI on all their Heated Rivalry fanfiction, including Wolfbird. This is not speculation. She confessed. She lied to her audience and lied to her friends outside the HR fandom, to the point of having several of them unknowingly edit AI output. Her dishonesty has no floor.

For using AI in her fanfic, while lying to a massive, intensely devoted readership that she would never do so. She told the same lie to creative friends who supported her even though they are not in the Heated Rivalry fandom.
