OpalApparition isn’t talking because she got caught lying. She used AI while claiming she would never, and knowingly deceived multiple friends to edit text “pseudo beta read” by AI (at minimum, by her admission! I now firmly believe it was significantly generated) when she knew THEY would never.

It’s also hard to know I was wrong in general. I wasn’t reading her HR fic but I was sure it was all hers! I hate genAI, and my trust in Opal was so absolute I never even checked. I disregarded her accusers except to call them names to make her feel better. I’m sick over it. And really sorry for it.

I’m a devoted friend. It’s been hard to learn someone I cared about and treated so well lied to me and others, and let herself be comforted this way. Today the delusion in these messages makes me wince. I sound a lot like her fans who are calling me a shit friend, jealous, a liar.

Until July 1st, Opal and I were in a private server of creatives together. Many knew her before HR, like I did. We trusted she would never use AI because she said so, and she consistently spoke against it, including after she’d started using it and lying about it.

When I found out about the Claude code and lying, I still thought “not her Dragon Age stuff, though, whew!” but having since learned more what Claude output looks like… I betaed some charity pieces for her in 2025, and while those were much better than Foxglove, one in particular now feels suspect

For using AI in her fanfic, while lying to a massive, intensely devoted readership that she would never do so. She told the same lie to creative friends who supported her even though they are not in the Heated Rivalry fandom.
