Backups and listening to existing stuff is free on OpenAudible.
Converting to new formats costs extra.

OpenAudible charges for some of its features like conversion, but no matter what you *will* have a backup of all the books you've purchased on Audible, free and unconnected from Audible.

Seems to require a $30(CAD) purchase to convert files to mp3. I'll have to think on that, but it did download (and will play) everything, so at minimum I have a backup.

I cannot recommend OpenAudible enough as a remedy. It makes me happy to have my audiobooks when off-line.

For people who hadn’t heard about this. I tried OpenAudible too but I like Libation a lot more.
Oh there’s an app on GitHub called Libation that’s great for downloading the Audible books.

I have 1700+ kindle ebooks. I started downloading my books this afternoon and I’m halfway done.
I’m also downloading my audible audiobooks.
You can convert those files using OpenAudible (it cost money). There are free apps but I haven’t tried them yet.

I'm not sure it's widely known that you *own* the books you buy on Audible. They don't make it easy for you to keep listening to them. There's an app called OpenAudible that allows you to download/convert them to mp3 and if you're tech, AudioBookshelf lets you host your own server.

I used openaudible to rip my library and set up AudioBookShelf as a self-hosted audiobook streaming platform.
I used OpenAudible to download the books and convert them, then a python script to tag and organise the books. Happy to try to help anyone who wants to do this.
