#OpenWrt
(my router is not vulnerable) But, many routers running openwrt seemingly are and if i am not mistaken so is a whole lot of products based on openwrt.

if there were ever a reason for ordinary people to start using openwrt..
“By analyzing how radio waves bounce around a room, researchers can effectively ‘see’ and recognize individuals — even if they are not carrying a device and even if their phone is turned off.”

In tests of 197 participants, the system identified individuals with nearly 100% accuracy.
Ordinary WiFi can now identify people with near perfect accuracy
Scientists in Germany have demonstrated a startling new form of surveillance: identifying people using nothing more than ordinary WiFi signals. By analyzing how radio waves bounce around a room, resea...

afaict it doesnt affect openwrt by default
which uses dropbear instead of openssh-server
still a wild bug though x_x

If you have any Linux that uses musl libc and openssh, disconnect it, investigate it, fix it. In that order.

Certainly Alpine, but this could be Gentoo, Void, Dragora and others.

OpenWRT generally uses a different SSH implementation (dropbear).

Ok so I HAVE run openwrt in my lifetime (not recently but) guess I need to look at this one more closely. 🫠

I keep seeing people FUD about openwrt with it, even though that uses dropbear by default
November 5, 2026 at 5:01 PM
Has anyone using dropbear SSH (ie on OpenWRT) figured out if they're affected, too?
November 6, 2026 at 6:55 AM
Openwrt usually uses dropbear for ssh, openssh would only be on specially configured ones
November 5, 2026 at 4:50 PM
Alpine and OpenWRT are trivial to `ssh root@your_thing`, if you have SSH-based password auth on, according to this.

Uh oh

OpenWRT shouldn't be in this list, as its SSH uses Dropbear by default, which isn't susceptible to this hole. Only a customized sshd configuration forcing OpenSSH would be.

I checked.

Sure, fine, technically true - but e.g. how many people go out of their way to replace dropbear with openssh on openwrt?
November 5, 2026 at 6:13 PM
OpenWRT? Oh that ain't good
Get root on a musl Linux system by slamming it with an overly long password
Decade-old vulnerability in OpenSSH is now fixed, so get a-patchin'

Yeah, no. OpenWrt uses Dropbear, not OpenSSH.
