The people associated with OpenDream are linked to a series of businesses in Vietnam, including a couple of gambling review websites whose team members use AI-generated photos by OpenDream, and, in one case, a photo of a murdered woman.

In the case of OpenDream, this material was made available not just through the website itself, but was also indexed by Google and Bing’s search engines. The majority of the images returned included images of bikini-clad or naked toddlers.

In addition to CSAM, there appeared to be no restrictions by OpenDream on generating non-consensual deepfakes of celebrities. Scrolling through the gallery, we found bikini-clad images of famous female web streamers, politicians, singers, and actors.

OpenDream offers subscriptions. In July, the two most expensive subscriptions allowed users to use models and prompts that are “not safe for work” (NSFW). This term generally describes sexual, violent or disturbing content, the only NSFW imagery we observed was of a pornographic or sexual nature.

I think it definitely could be anticipated. I also feel you are minimizing the harm that even "some bad uses" has caused. Take sites like Mr. Deepfakes and OpenDream. For example.

The site still offers subscriptions that allow users to use sexually explicit prompts privately. But the relaunched site comes with a new disclaimer on every page: “OpenDream is a place where you can create artistic photos. We do not sell photos and are not responsible for user-generated photos.”

Two weeks after Bellingcat first contacted OpenDream and the individuals associated with it, the site appeared to have been suspended. When it came back online a day later, all evidence of non-consensual deepfake pornography and AI CSAM appeared to have been cleaned from the site.
