The Inaugural OpenMod Workshop on the African Continent Friday, 26 June 2026 | University of Cape Town, South Africa 🎫 Free to attend | 🎥 Sessions will be recorded and uploaded to YouTube About the Event Open Energy Transition and the Energy Systems Research Group from the University of Cape Town are proud to announce OpenMod South Africa 2026, the first OpenMod Workshop ever held on the African continent. Open-source energy system modelling has been evolving for years. It is already embedded in regulatory processes, power system planning, flexibility assessments, and investment analyses across Europe and beyond. The tools have matured. The community has grown. And now the conversation is coming to Africa. OpenMod South Africa will bring together researchers, system planners, utilities, regulators, developers, and students working at the intersection of energy, data, and climate to showcase what open modelling can do, share what it has already done, and build the foundations for a stronger African open modelling community. If open-source modelling is new to you, you are warmly welcome. This workshop is designed for all levels of experience. What to Expect ⚡ Lightning talks — concise presentations on tools, methods, and real-world applications 🖥 Technical demonstrations — live walkthroughs of open-source frameworks and case studies 💬 Breakout sessions — facilitated discussions on regional planning challenges and data gaps 🤝 Networking — structured and informal engagement across the full energy modelling community Call for Contributions We welcome contributions from practitioners, researchers, developers, and policymakers.
