A Canadian analogue to the social significance of the #StonewallUprising happened on #ThisDayInHistory in 1981. In #OperationSoap (such a tacky name), #police in #Toronto raided four gay bathhouses, arresting almost 300 people. Most charges were dropped due to the public furore.

On this day in 1981, Toronto Police raided four gay bathhouses and arrested 300 men. It was the largest mass arrest in Canada since the October Crisis of 1970.
It has been referred to as Canada's Stonewall.
