I'm glad to see post-Optane DAOS trucking along, but this begs the question: what good was Optane doing in the first place if removing it doesn't impact performance? What resilience tradeoffs will now be realized?

I wonder what it's like in the alternate universe where they still make optane.
What’s weird to me is that optane could have gone faster than a x4 NVMe bus, but when companies started scaling to x8 they just slapped two NAND controllers on it and glued two NAND SSDs together. Optane was marginally faster than NAND on a x4 bus, but the margins were too slim to market.
