Hey Ace Hardware, why are you selling this dangerous neurotoxic, cancer-causing insecticide? Its been banned in many places for most uses. One of the worst on the market.
Folks: that "deep penetrating vapor" reaches you too.
Dichlorvos is a nasty, poisonous organophosphate neurotoxin.🧪

Farmworker and public health groups, represented by Earthjustice, are suing the EPA for failing to act on a petition to ban organophosphate pesticides—a class of harmful chemicals used on many fruits and vegetables, including berries, citrus, peaches, tomatoes, and broccoli.

🚨 China: Massive explosion at Shandong Youdao Chemical plant in Gaomi city. At least 5 dead, 19 injured, 6 missing.
The factory manufactured Chlorpyrifos, neurotoxic organophosphate insecticide that acts as a nerve agent.

Fertilizer is often combined with organophosphate pesticides, which are indeed super toxic. But like, god forbid we wash our veggies before we eat them.

Also stockpiling organophosphate "herbicides"
While I am excited about the use of phosphates in Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) batteries, it is worth keeping in mind that organophosphates were invented/mass-produced in NAZI Germany and include Sarin gas and Zyklon B. This is feels bigger than just a giveaway to Bayer & Monsanto.

‘A possible relationship between chronic organophosphate.exposure and alterations in central cholinergic or dopaminergic activity is suggested.

[This]..raises the possibility that agricultural workers may be at risk for the late development of parkinsonism.’

Single case study. Possible organophosphate-induced parkinsonism - PubMed
A case of possible organophosphate-induced parkinsonism is presented. The patient was a crop duster with numerous episodes of acute organophosphate intoxication and chronic organophosphate exposure. The etiology of parkinsonism is discussed in terms of a balance hypothesis between cholinergic and do …

Organophosphate pesticides are widely used on fruits, vegetables, and field crops across the U.S. and have been linked to significant harms to human health. Along with @earthjustice.org we are demanding urgent action from the EPA to protect us from these toxic chemicals.

He’s right that they threw fertilizer in the water, but he’s lying about who “they” are

They refilled the reflecting pool with municipal water, which is dosed with organophosphate to minimize lead leaching from pipes, and which is also … fertilizer

My food is organic in that it made of organic molecules and was grown with organophosphate pesticides.

Public service announcement. If you find glass tubes like this, marked "Sarin", they are not "ampoules of Sarin". They are colorimetric test tubes to detect the presence of organophosphate nerve agents.

Why would someone think a Geiger tube would detect an obtuse organophosphate molecule

I've long half-joked that sim & oral boards cases should include realistic context like in the middle of an organophosphate poisoning case, another patient with an ankle sprain interrupts to ask for their discharge papers
I kind of suspect if we gave an AI a case, oral boards style, where the only information given is that which is explicitly requested and contextual clues are provided amid a variety of irrelevant information, the AI would struggle to figure out even simple cases.

Well, it is probably something fairly banal and not, like, people trying to make organophosphate chemical weapons.

More info at some point presumably.

What a great opportunity to mention that minoritarian white governments of both Apartheid South Africa & “Rhodesia” (now recognised as Zimbabwe)…

…used commercially available organophosphate pesticide preparations as part of multi-nationally operating chemical weapons & warfare programs
This ICE post is a reference to a Rhodesian Army recruiting poster ("Be A Man Among Men") that's very popular with white supremacists.

Found in a local East African retail pesticide shop. Banned in numerous nations. Dichlorvos or DDVP. One of the most dangerous and toxic organophosphate insecticides known. Think Shell No-Pest Strips if you're old. Safety info too small to read. Same class as nerve-gas. 🧪

The term nerve agent has a specific definition. It specifically means chemical compounds that interfere with the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. This broadly means organophosphate and carbamate compounds. None of the riot control agents have this property

No, it's not. Nerve agents are literally organophosphate pesticides and they show distinctive medical signs within minutes. They're also frequently fatal, as in, if they used them on a crowd, there would be dead people on the street. They wouldn't use them while their own cops were on the ground.

Read on, in that thread, about the actual bottle... "Want some of the 'organophosphate flame retardant TPP' with your 'spring' water (triphenyl phosphate)? How about brominated epoxy oligomer?"
Why flame retardant, in a friggin *water* bottle? It's not to protect you silly. The base PET polymer is highly flammable, so dangerous to handle, mould into a bottle, and store. The flame retardants are for the benefit of the packaging industry, not you.

#Chlorpyrifos is a potent, broad-spectrum organophosphate insecticide used on a variety of agricultural & non-agricultural crops. While historically popular for pest control, it has faced significant regulatory restrictions & legal battles due to its well-documented neurotoxicity and health hazards.
