A rocky bank with Orpine, Hylotelephium telephium and Harebells, Campanula rotundifolia. Full of insect life.
An old folk-name for Orpine is Witch's Moneybags. I have no idea why but look forward to finding out.

Another English name is Orpine, though I like the alternative names. I wrote about it a year ago - Orpine, Hylotelephium telephium | Jeremy Bartlett's LET IT GROW blog share.google/LbanzyQEEO3E...

NFG total of 9 last night, including one NFM in shape of a smart, smoky-grey Orpine Ermine. Rubbish memory tells me that Yellow-backed Detritus Moth might be NFM too. Do I trust it? No. So I'll have to check...🙄

Four of the 9 are pictured.

I have a question for my plant loving people out there. Found this growing in my old pasture by the creek just recently. I don't remember ever seeing this before and there was only one. Google lens says this is orpine which is non-native here. So my question is is this orpine?

Orpine on Tunbridge Wells Common. This late-flowering plant with succulent leaves looks like it doesnt really belong in the wild in England, but is a native flower in Wealden woodlands #wildflowerhour

This plant is new to me this week. I read about it on @brigitstrawbridge.bsky.social and suddenly realised I had taken a photo of one last weekend while at BBOWT Warburg. Orpine has many weird alt names: frog’s stomach; midsummer men; livelong; witch’s moneybags
