ooh. some people may not know the history of POTS, a form of orthostatic intolerance that is often dismissed due to female predominance, but it and similar conditions were first documented by da Costa just after the US Civil War. they also called it irritable heart syndrome and soldier's heart.
Synopsis: The history of disability rights is often told as a recent one, but it is not. In the wake of the American Revolution, many of the differences we now call disabilities could be accommodated into citizenship—and for some even exemplified its promises.

An orthostatic headache — one that builds within minutes of being upright and eases when you lie flat — is the signature of low cerebrospinal fluid pressure, usually from a small spinal leak.

2025, Porzingus stated he had postural orthostatic tachycardia symptom (POTS). Chronic incurable condition that attacks autonomous nervous system and can cause increased heart rate, dizziness, fatigue.😱

Targeted breathing rehab improved symptom and breathing pattern scores but did not raise end-tidal CO2 levels.

In long COVID patients, 50% had orthostatic symptoms on lean testing and 64% had low CO2; only 42% of those referred completed rehab. (n=50) #POTS

Posture can affect cognition in Parkinson’s disease. 🧍📊

Longardner et al. (2026) used fNIRS to link orthostatic hypotension with altered cerebral haemodynamics and poorer cognitive performance when upright, despite no reported symptoms.

The Kenstater: 'Heat and humidity impact on fall season'

'Taylor Moss, a second-year student at Kent State University, explains how her Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is greatly affected by the heat whenever she is moving around on campus.'

Heat and humidity impact on fall season
The summer season has ended, but the heat conditions on campus seem to say otherwise. This past week, the temperature on Kent Campus was just as hot when the students...

Orthostatic intolerance affected 50% of patients with gut-brain interaction disorders, with about 5 times the odds vs controls.

POTS was present in 31.5%. Children had higher rates (60%) than adults (33%) across 13 studies in syst review. (n=2,820) #POTS

It doesn't stop at enteric nerves.

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and dysautonomia act as subgroup amplifiers.

When you eat, blood pools in the abdomen (splanchnic pooling) → triggering tachycardia, nausea, & altered motility.

to effectively reverse hypocapnia. By artificially raising blood CO₂ levels, the cerebral blood vessels are forced to dilate, immediately restoring normal blood flow to the brain and alleviating orthostatic symptoms.

🧨Hypocapnia & Vasoconstriction: The resulting drop in paired partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO₂) signals the cerebral blood vessels to constrict.
🧨Symptom Cascade: Reduced cerebral blood flow causes the classic presentation of orthostatic lightheadedness, syncope (fainting),

The POSH Phenotype: The vast majority of these patients instead exhibit POSH. Upon standing, they experience hypocapnia (low blood CO₂ levels), which triggers orthostatic cerebral vasoconstriction—the narrowing of blood vessels in 🧠 .

While POTS dominates public discussion around LC dysautonomia, large-scale autonomic testing shows it represents only a small fraction of orthostatic issues in this cohort.

I have orthostatic hypotension and vasovagal syncope.

Standing still for too long can make me feel awful, and sometimes I even pass out.

It’s honestly hilarious that I’m technically a human, yet somehow completely unsuited for this whole “walking on two legs” thing.

I started taking Viusid Catalysis yesterday, 2x daily. It's a powdered drink mix.

No improvement of PEM, fatigue, or orthostatic intolerance yet, despite the study results.

At $69 for a box of 21 sachets, it's expensive.

It's only 12€ a box in Germany.

I'm working on a project to educate emergency doctors right now. There's stuff to do and use! Even simple things like saline are helpful for an orthostatic crisis, for example

Tallaght University Hospital studied 50 people with Long COVID.

64% had low CO2 at rest or standing and 32% met POTS criteria.

Breathing rehab improved orthostatic symptoms even though CO2 did not normalize.

Even if u have hyperadregenic pots, it may help? Oftentimes ppl with Orthostatic Intolerance experience their bodies releasing adrenaline to try and raise our BP/heart rate to make up for all our blood pooling in our legs. Hence the tachycardia.

So tighter vessels can make things work better

hi, so, some of this is weird wellness/fad diet stuff, but a good chunk of the reason for the high-sodium diets is that a lot of people have developed various forms of orthostatic intolerance, especially after COVID, and high sodium diets help trick our wonky bodies into preserving blood volume.
I've also been seeing a weird push for high-sodium diets, and "don't be afraid of salt" pieces. This would not pair particularly well with that first one but WE SHALL SEE.
Why is billionaire-owned media suddenly coming all at once with pieces against drinking fluids. What is this manufacturing consent for. Is it building toward something. Should I be afraid
