The Mayor wants city staff to study Ottawa’s 50 most dangerous intersections. Nearly a decade ago, the City identified 29 and priced fixes at $32M. Council said it was too expensive.

We don’t have a knowledge problem. We have an implementation problem.

Scramble intersections. It’s not that hard. Improved pedestrian safety as all traffic stops to let people cross in all directions. If Chicoutimi can do this, why not #OttCity?

Vision zero is completely attainable. But it requires having the vision to see beyond road speed as the measure of success for a City. #OttCity decided that zero was too hard and aimed for a 20% reduction and is currently on track for our deadliest year but no one in power seems to care.
Vision Zero is perfectly achievable.

You just have to have more than zero vision when it comes to the causes of pedestrian deaths.

It’s. The. Drivers.
“They cut speed limits, changed street design, removed space for cars… Now it appears that work is paying off. #Oslo & #Helsinki are reaping the rewards of committed action on making their roads safer, reducing pedestrian fatalities to zero last year.” #VisionZero #SpeedKills

Ottawa has a decade-high record road death toll for 2026. The Mayor’s answer to safer roads? “Make traffic move faster.”

🚨We have a lot of work to do.

In #OttCity this should be key: it’s so hard to get a progressive voice elected we can’t risk splitting that voice. Let’s get behind @jleiper.bsky.social for mayor and make #OurBestOttawa
In the Vancouver election, many thought Pete Fry and the Greens couldn’t beat Sim’s money advantage.

“Turns out, they could—with a little help from their friends.”

THREE progressive parties worked together proposing a coalition council, didn’t split the vote, and won instead of beating each other.
ANALYSIS | 4 reasons why Pete Fry is the new mayor of Vancouver — and 1 reason Ken Sim lost | CBC News
In a province where incumbent mayors seeking re-election win approximately 80 per cent of the time, why did Ken Sim lose in Vancouver? Here are a few reasons, based on reporting before and during the ...

Upsetting to hear about the pending closure of the OGC. I am quickly reminded of the $1-billion gap for Recreation and Cultural Services identified in the 2025 Asset Management Plan.

Which Ottawa recreational facility will be next?

This is what austerity looks like.

Imagine if #OttCity took example from other G7 capitals & mitigated heat/air pollution w/ bike lanes & ULEZ, putting us on a global stage for sustainably tackling quality of life.

That would take leadership & vision. Tomorrow is election day, let’s vote @jleiper.bsky.social for #OurBestOttawa
London has probably now got the cleanest air out of any equivalent sized cities in the world thanks to Ulez, electric cars and buses.

In #Ottawa if the Mayor and every Councillor committed to using OC Transpo (no cars just bus and/or trains) at least one day each week, then I think we would see serious action on transit. They can vary the day of the week. #OttCity P.S. I am sure we would soon hear some creative excuses. 😇
Monday’s election showed us that public transit matters to the Ottawa electorate.

Every candidate, whether for Mayor or Councillor campaigned to make better transit in Ottawa.
