Out on the deck a few days back, stubbornly enjoying a cold beer in colder weather, I watched the nuances of a sun halo and liked the changing texture. Took a few shots and these are the ones I'll share, because Bluesky is good to us that way. Cheers to all the sky photogs #photography #sky #oursun

A stunning close-up image of the Sun captured in Hydrogen Alpha light. The image showcases details including limb darkening, prominent solar plages, a large prominence extending from the edge, and a smaller prominence visible in silhouette near the center. This amateur astrophotograph reveals the Sun's dynamic and active surface, even during a relatively quiet period.

A stunning close-up image of the Sun, captured in Hydrogen Alpha light and color-inverted. The image reveals intricate details: numerous sunspots, active regions, bright spicules covering much of the surface, filaments (prominences on the Sun's face), and prominences extending from the edge. Limb darkening is clearly visible. This unusually active Sun showcases the increasing solar activity leading up to the solar maximum. A small inset shows the relative size of Earth compared to the Sun.

Stunning close-up image of the Sun, captured in Hydrogen Alpha light and color-inverted. The image reveals intricate details including numerous sunspots, spicules carpeting the surface, bright prominences at the limb, and filaments (prominences) visible as light streaks across the solar disk. The limb darkening effect is also clearly visible. A comparison graphic shows the relative size of Earth to the Sun. The image showcases the Sun's increased activity nearing solar maximum.

Ooooooooooooh! 😲

The Sun is always fascinating, and as we approach this cycle's maximum, it's getting *really* interesting. I can't wait to see what kind of data and images like this we're gonna get out of #DKIST!!

Massive solar eruption carves 60,000-mile-long 'canyon of fire' into the sun on Halloween night
A powerful explosion from the sun briefly opened up an enormous valley on the solar surface that was more than twice as wide as the contiguous U.S. and seven times longer than Earth.
