#Oxaliplatin
Found out today I don’t have to take the drug responsible for neuropathy any longer (Oxaliplatin). Also, the mass on my liver has shrunk in half since I started treatment. Eat shit, Cancer.

Is this your first day of chemo? Same.

Scared and nervous? Also same, but we can talk about it.

I'm on Oxaliplatin and Capecitabine.

What are those?

The drug was oxaliplatin (eloxatin) and there is a known possible severe allergic reaction to platinum containing drugs.

Patients need to educate themselves and ask intelligent questions of their doctors.

Infusion complete, home now. Doctors actually reduced my oxaliplatin dose by 25% so hopefully my side effects will be mitigated a bit this time.

I do feel a bit perkier already.
Chemo cycle 7 today ( The Heptacycle!), the last one before liver surgery the week of Oct 20.

Dreading it, obviously. But new cycle means new #PowerShirt, which I picked up 80% off at a J Crew Factory outlet.

Thoughts, prayers, etc. welcome. I got this, just don't wanna do it.

Good news, everybody!

My doctor dropped the oxaliplatin from my chemo cycle AND THAT MEANS my other drug (leucovorin) can be administered over half an hour instead of two! I'll be out of here SO QUICKLY today.

Oxaliplatin is an IV platinum-containing antineoplastic agent. The primary mechanism is it damages cellular DNA and prevents cellular replication which slows/halts/kills rapidly dividing cancer cells.

meds I have been taking have stopped working and the cancer is growing. Not good news at all but, we are currently rechallenging my cancer with a previous med (Oxaliplatin) I have taken and we have a plan for a third line med as soon as we recognize that Ox is not working.

So, even though the (2/4)

Update on my chemo treatments:

Because my platelet count is so low, my oncologist is stopping one of my three treatments (oxaliplatin) for my final three infusions. My cancer markers have been steadily in the normal range, so it's safe and should keep me on schedule to finish in late February.

I got DA-EPOCH-R and R-GemOx chemotherapy and the only day I got nausea was when they didn't give me Emend before my oxaliplatin. I got it on my next round and was fine.

Also not sad to be dropping the oxaliplatin from my regimen (neuropathy in my fingers starting to creep in...). Saves two hours of treatment, cold sensitivity, and who knows what other side-effects. Look forward to finding out!

#chemo session 13 today. Back to the irinotecan, avastin, 5FU combo. Last week was pretty decent, side-effect-wise, though my peripheral neuropathy progressed a bit (despite stopping oxaliplatin after session 11). Looking into complementary treatments for that (viz. acupuncture). 🤞

Doxorubicin. Interestingly, I'm pretty sure most of my weird side-effects came from Vincristine, like my eyelid getting droopy and my fingers wanting to twitch like they were fingering frets on a guitar or have one just randomly fully extend. Oxaliplatin, OTOH, was just straight-up nasty.

18 years ago yesterday (September 9), my father lost his battle with cancer at 61. Not to the cancer— to the chemotherapy drug Oxaliplatin which he was deadly allergic to and it cooked his lungs.
He died suffocating on a respirator.

Get allergy tests before you take IV drugs.
