Bluesky is a Public Benefit Corporation. What does that mean? We are not just responsible to shareholders but also all our stakeholders aka y’all. It allows us to pursue mission over pure profit, and we have some extra reports we must do every year ✏️ Other PBCs: Patagonia, Method, Allbirds, etc.

idk if its a hot take but PBC have in many ways shown themselves a bad steward of the protocol. the vast majority of PBCs implementations do multiple things that arent spec compliant. the ref impl PDS does so much or that that many third party client arent spec compliant because of it

btw this is the kinda thing im refering to when i say that PBCs implementations of the protocol are hurting the ecosystem.
the ref impl PDS has a lot of bluesky defaultism. i can understand it in places where bluesky needs features that the protocol doesnt have yet. but not for proxying

our main thing here is we want tranquil to be first and foremost an *atproto* PDS conforming to atproto specs
the fact that bluesky kinda forces us to implement proxying in a way i would argue is counter to spec and in several spots requires us to designate some appview be special and default sucks

Mark, admire your business acumen. Would also love your take on the Bluesky business structure of a public benefit corporation. Should we pursue PBCs in critical sectors like drug development, health care, child care? In ideal world, we could lower taxes on PBCs vs purely for profit. #Incentives
