#PBEM
I played a Star Trek PBeM for years, and despite my repeatedly pointing out that the Star Trek universe is set up to emulate age-of-sail physics, and that CapShips therefore outclass shuttles, the players /insisted/ on having a fighter department. We used tractor / pressor catapults to get them out

This is a commission of a PBEM Amber character that I LOVE & have been playing for 5 years. The first 2 pictures were sent to the artist, Jed Dougherty “, as reference. Jed is a comic bk artist & illustrator. The bow is called a palintonos; it takes great strength to string it. Last stage is color.

I just remembered, there were eGroups PBeM before Yahoo! bought and merged it with Y!Groups.

The Y!G web interface made some PBEM chaotic. 😅 (You can browse the posts instead of just seeing the most recent in your email Inbox.)

several of my pals on here are folks I met through Sailor Moon PBEM (and later, forum-based) rpgs when we were teens, which is a hilarious thing to try and explain to people now
Playing @middleearth.quest reminds me of #PBM and #PBeM (play-by-mail and play-by-email) where there's a big time factor to consider before it's your turn again.

It's very casual as far as time alloted is concerned. But serious when it's your turn.

I wonder how many still remembers PBM and PBeM. 😆

I know some diplomacy servers operate that way. But was unaware of any other PBeM games still going.

There are still computerized war games that allow for PBEM

I memory holed PBeM. Wow. That was the first use for my prodigy.net email address.

Redscape Silverstone 87' - Turn 7

Bruce Rae wheels it full speed through Club and he and Robert Rund try to keep the Torrid pace ahead of the field.

Currently trying to resurrect the YOSPOS SMAC PBEM thread. A Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri game that we've been running via Play-By-EMail (PBEM) since 2017: forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.p...

you are absolutely the sort of person who winds up getting a license for shits and giggles and then winds up in disaster preparedness

I don't remember what X is. I wanna say 30? I don't know.

Anyways, this was a problem for the burgeoning number of PBeM (Play By e-Mail) games that were spinning out of the discussion boards I was on, and participating with.

So, being teenagers, we found a solution. (3/x)

As we run on Silverstone 87', Bruce Rae leads the field as they exit Becketts, heading through Chapel, the field tightly packed as they approach the corners.

It could also work as a PBEM campaign with an at-table finale.

Happy Star Trek Day, a thing I only really unabashedly celebrated as a child, then took a couple decades off until my late thirties, when I started writing in a Star Trek PBEM group. Three years later, I get to write for the captain of a starship, a leader in the organization.
HAPPY STAR TREK DAY

in 1992 I was Counselor Troi for Halloween and at recess I saw a kid a year below me dressed as Captain Kirk and HE had a TRICORDER so all recess we ran around the playground together scanning things

that’s honestly what fandom is like

Can't recommend enough that Portlanders do some sort of disaster preparedness organizing, either through city-provided resources or autonomously.

If you're ready for a regional apocalypse, then you might be a step ahead of other looming calamities, too.

Neighborhood Emergency Teams (NETs)
Neighborhood Emergency Teams are Portland residents trained by PBEM and Portland Fire & Rescue to provide emergency disaster assistance within their own neighborhoods.

Aww yeah
I own both it and its expansion and have used ideas from it in my long running PBEM RPGs Strange Bedfellows and Lost Eggs
Thread-time; I recently picked up a copy of the seminal game "Weapons of the Gods" from EOS press and I am going to post my analysis as I read through the text.

You have to more than double this though, as the vast majority of my playtime is torrents.

Factor in the earlier games in the series, going back to Strategic Command with it's PBEM system, we're talking low five figures.

Also, I've been a #ttrpg gamer and dungeon master for eternity. I've run PBEM games for eternity and this year have gotten myself into running an online twitch 5e D&D game, The 13th Icon, on

When shit hits the fan, the first responders will most likely be your neighbors.

That’s the idea behind the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management’s (PBEM) efforts to organize and train everyday Portlanders to respond in emergency situations.

"Patak" obviously was not meant to refer to the junior Science Officer on my Star Trek PBEM crew. Should have been "Israeli," and I don't know how my swipe keyboard got from one to the other.

bsky.app/profile/i-br...
"Hasan Piker was being descriptive" isn't the defense you think it is.

He has observed antisemites doing violence against diaspora Jews as retribution for patak crimes, he holds that observation in his head, and when asked to persuade Jews to oppose Israel he unleashed the observation.

I think we should qualify that is only within RPG/OSR circles. To self promote, my En Garde PBEM campaign absolutely assumes high level play with players as Cardinals and the Minister of State. Gangbusters does it not badly as well.
August 25, 2026 at 3:52 PM
Not difficult. Just select PBEM when starting a new scenario. The game engine does the rest.

I have never pbem. That would be a new experience. I enjoy WDS. It reminds me of the Avalon Hill and GSW games I played in the 70s and 80s. It has the same feel. Battle de Moscowa by GDW was a massive game.

excellent ! i do have a notional idea for somewhere down the line he’d fit - promise city from boothill but like the 1990s - different pc groups as gangsters, hoods, cults , ranchers etc think sicario meets one battle after another meets fargo - is it pbem, tenerife style rpg, wargame ? i dont know
