The final recipient of our May #PeatNeeds is Ricardo Jaramillo. Ricardo’s research focuses on restoration of tropical mountain peatlands in Ecuador, and working with Indigenous communities in the Andes. 1/2

The first recipient of our May #PeatNeeds is Victor Lecegui, who is studying the ecological drivers that affect microeukaryote communities in peatlands across the Iberian Peninsula. Victor will use the microgrant to buy a pair of waterproof boots and a hand lens for surveying vegetation plots.

The final recipient for our April round of #PeatNeeds is Vanessa Götz. Vanessa investigates how plant roots (e.g. Eriophorum vaginatum) interact with thawing permafrost soils in the Alaskan moist acidic tussock tundra and how these interactions influence carbon cycling. 1/2

Laura measures dissolved and ebullitive gases in rewetted peatlands in the UK and Sweden, and is also radiocarbon dating these gases. The #PeatNeeds microgrant will go towards field kit to wear during a field campaign this summer. 2/2

The second recipient for the April round of #PeatNeeds is Laura Baugh (laurabaugh94.bsky.social). Laura is interested in GHG fluxes from waterbodies in rewetted peatlands, with a specific focus on methane. 1/2

The third recipient of our March #PeatNeeds microgrants is Sebestian Kalang William from the University of Tartu. He is working on measuring GHG fluxes in tropical peat swamp forests and land use change. 1/2

She is also interested in understanding small wetlands, which are often overlooked despite their crucial role in biodiversity. Laura will use #PeatNeeds microgrant to cover essential needs in order to focus entirely on thesis writing.
