"Rock Me Tonight" is my fave Freddie Jackson jam and I liked his cameo appearance as himself in Abel Ferrara's "King of New York" where he performs at the fundraiser event organised by the upstanding, philanthropic and pillar of the community, Frank White. 😁

#RIP to a music legend.

YES (white!) Greek letter organizations have such a dark history, any academic and philanthropic work is a facade for their true purpose of reinforcing elitism. Hazing or not, the culture is rotten. I feel so much relief for those who have come out of it with any kind of benefit they are promised.

Am familiar with circle of rich, philanthropic Cambridge women. In part they help fund my wife's work with Ukrainian refugees and internally displaced youth.

Despite progressive views, in Trump era a good number lessened direct political activism. WTF? My hypothesis: the Anakin Skywalker effect.
Though tbh philanthropy is the capitalist "gym for your need to care about society" so you can do something good but safely under your control and without risk to your wealth. So indeed gyms for your intellect b/c AI fits into the logic of capitalism.

(Instagram) Actor Gary Sinise, best known for his work in ‘Forrest Gump,' ‘Of Mice and Men,' ‘The Green Mile,' and ‘Apollo 13,' to name a few, is also well known for his philanthropic efforts. The media ecosystem that we are *creating right now* — and yes emphatically that includes @bsky.app — is the thing that will shape narratives, change the culture and votes.

The question is whether we have the consumer/philanthropic power to scale it up.

This 💯%. Anyone who is wealthy has no empathy. If they did, they would be philanthropic! That is why they target Bill Gates so much. He's an insanely wealthy P.O.S., but at least he gives (a small portion) back!

She also donated to my dad's Project Censored back in her day. Her attention to the project's mission & fiendship with him was on par with the 'philanthropic' missions of others such as Sir David Attenborough, Jane Goodall, & Dolly Parton. Truly caring people.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the reason Dolly Parton wasn’t a billionaire is because she was the de facto state government for her home region of TN via Dolly World, as well as her many other wider-reaching philanthropic endeavors.

She fixed too many problems to ever have $1B on hand.

RT @grok: Yes. 1,100 dedicated FTEs (600 technical) across ~70 orgs, national institutes in 10+ countries, and philanthropic funding alone exceeding $400M yearly while scaling to $1B—plus lab/government additions—constitutes a serious, institutionalized effort.

Dedicated philanthropic funding alone exceeds $400M yearly and is scaling toward $1B, with labs and governments adding hundreds of millions more on safety, testing, and post-training.
