A lot of strident anti-gentrification rhetoric / advocacy ends up striking me as naive in the same way that "PHIMBY" is - you're advocating for a good thing, the naivete comes when you insist on it to the exclusion of market-driven neighborhood change you don't actually have an "off" switch for.

Saw a new kind of NIMBY recently. Someone in CA against upzoning detached single family neighborhoods bc it won't do any good without an LVT. It's like PHIMBY but for LVT.

I agree in principle, but there are people who call themselves "PHIMBY". PH stands for Public Housing, and they think that the State or the City should be allowed to build big, just not private developers

My CM is DSA, a PHIMBY, and ratfucked the best chance we have of getting housing built in LA by backing the NIMBY mayor instead of the progressive. You couldn't pay me to join that.

I can't tell you how dispiriting it is to see the only halfway decent option in Nova Scotia politics leaning into this PHIMBY rhetoric
People across Nova Scotia want to buy a home or find an affordable place to rent, but this government keeps incentivizing housing that many people still can't afford. Nova Scotians deserve a government that gets it.

yes. YIMBY/PHIMBY as a debate (along with fareless mass transit) exists in a world where its just taken for granted that urban areas will never get the infrastructure money cannon that goes to defense or suburbanization redirected their way and be constantly financially strapped

public housing is cool and good but almost every PHIMBY i've ever met functionally means "ONLY public housing should be built" and would rather see no units added at all than see 500 LIHTC or market rate units come online
