#PHIMBY
just so it’s clear, I’m PHIMBY (public housing in my backyard)
May 5, 2026 at 3:04 PM
I will never concede the existence of “phimby”
March 18, 2026 at 3:48 AM
PHIMBY and anti-gentrifier should be flipped
November 25, 2025 at 4:45 AM
public housing is cool and good but almost every PHIMBY i've ever met functionally means "ONLY public housing should be built" and would rather see no units added at all than see 500 LIHTC or market rate units come online

phimby (put him/her in my bussy yesterday)

1 billion public housing units

yes. YIMBY/PHIMBY as a debate (along with fareless mass transit) exists in a world where its just taken for granted that urban areas will never get the infrastructure money cannon that goes to defense or suburbanization redirected their way and be constantly financially strapped

Yep. This is why I'm a PHIMBY.

means nothing imo, i've never met a PHIMBY who wasn't functionally a NIMBY because they functionally mean "public housing ONLY" in my back yard" and all degenerate into this meme

My admittedly blurry recollection is that she briefly courted the PHIMBY types before realizing they were a dead end
June 8, 2026 at 3:48 AM
4k units will be Affordable (out of 12k total), I'm more in the PHIMBY side but this looks like a good deal to me.
July 3, 2025 at 5:03 AM
A PHIMBY who doesn't then say "I will pay 1-2% of my income to make it happen" is a NIMBY with more steps.
March 18, 2026 at 2:25 PM
"PHIMBY" now there's a term I haven't heard in a long time.
May 20, 2026 at 5:07 PM
Adds "SHIMBY" to the top of the pile of failed NIMBY rebrands.

"PHIMBY" is now buried so deep you can't even see it.

When I went to the Amsterdam Museum in early 2023 they had an exhibit on the housing crisis with perspectives from different residents. The language was pretty left-NIMBY, maybe PHIMBY. Veryyyy anti-market/private developer

I can't tell you how dispiriting it is to see the only halfway decent option in Nova Scotia politics leaning into this PHIMBY rhetoric
People across Nova Scotia want to buy a home or find an affordable place to rent, but this government keeps incentivizing housing that many people still can't afford. Nova Scotians deserve a government that gets it.

If upzoning, permitting reform, & building code reform--all passed full & clean, without Everything Bagel strings attached--fails to bring condo sales prices down to the marginal cost of construction, I legit promise you I will look into the camera & profess my commitment to PHIMBY socialism

to all my new followers: i am Leftist PHIMBY (public housing) Jewish Mets/Knicks/Jets (lol) fan and lover of cinema and wrestling. you were warned BUT… thank you.

One advantage of the PHIMBY approach is that real estate tends to be one of the most virulently reactionary sectors of capital - it's good to weaken them! Fewer landlords & friends means potentially strangling a future Trump in the crib.

Remember all that “PHIMBY, not YIMBY” stuff back when Twitter was still around? Well the first donor to @opennewyork.org’s ballot measure campaign is…Jamie Rubin, the chair of the New York City Housing Authority’s board www.nytimes.com/2025/09/08/n... 🎁🔗

PHantastic!
Wait - does PHimby mean “Passive House forward?”
PHPHimby for the win!
Passive House Public Housing YES!
November 26, 2025 at 2:35 AM
They've basically gone full-PHIMBY, and are opposing any residential development without required IZ too
July 26, 2026 at 1:55 AM
A lot of strident anti-gentrification rhetoric / advocacy ends up striking me as naive in the same way that "PHIMBY" is - you're advocating for a good thing, the naivete comes when you insist on it to the exclusion of market-driven neighborhood change you don't actually have an "off" switch for.

What about... PHIMBY
December 3, 2024 at 10:03 PM
this is a much better tack for the NDP to take than all the PHIMBY nonsense
Why won't the Houston government set up a residential tenancies enforcement unit?

They have the evidence. There's a mounting pile of stories showing why it's needed.

If we're going to have rules to protect renters, they need to be enforced.
