Sharing our lab’s first publication! Probing clinical isolates of Cryptococcus, a disease-causing fungus of the lungs and brain, we found multiple heat-mobile elements that ‘jump’ in the genome at body temperature (!) with the ability to drive adaptive changes. journals.plos.org/plosgenetics...

I've just had a jaw-to-the-floor moment with this new paper from the Hines lab. They describe a yellow-white switch in bees, which maps to the same TF as the yellow-white switch in Colias butterflies, previously described by the @chriswheat.bsky.social lab. journals.plos.org/plosgenetics...

Happy to see Kevin Robe’s work on ZIP transporters published. We found evidences that ZIP2 and ZIP8 are involved in Cu and Fe acquisition respectively and confirmed the role of ZIP3 and ZIP5 in Zn acquisition. journals.plos.org/plosgenetics...

This is an echo of prior work by Zaitlen et al. 2013 (journals.plos.org/plosgenetics...) which used a multivariate approach to model relatedness and again found heritability estimates that were much lower than in twins.

1/2 Many years ago, @plantylisasmith.bsky.social identified an Arabidopsis hybrid incompatibility due to interaction between different alleles at the OAK receptor-like kinase (RLK) locus, but it was unknown why there is so much sequence diversity at this locus
