#PMIS
US flash PMI at 58.4, well above expectations. Ten-year moved from 5% to 5.15% on the release, and hours later the five-year auction was a disaster. French and German services PMIs also beat. Bonds are repricing globally to a stronger growth picture than the market had been positioned for.

BofA: We expect Sep payrolls to rise by a below-consensus 60k (private: 50k) due to payback from Aug’s strong seasonal factors, but underlying job growth remains resilient at 100k+.

Unemployment likely stays at 4.1% (risk of 4.2%). Aug PCE, Sept ISM PMIs also on tap

No idea on the latter, but given the sharp move post-PMIs yesterday that wouldn’t be a surprising reaction. If they truly want to be myopically data-dependent, there’s not much that would hold them back from proceeding with a more typical hiking cycle. But agree it is looking extreme/overdone now.

Flash PMIs crush it. US 58.4 highest in 5 years. Eurozone 53.1 highest in 3 years. Fed hike odds now 69%, ECB 66%. Iran tensions send #BZ to 100 overnight. Growth meets geopolitical risk. Inflation proving sticky. Hawkish pivot is real.

US Flash PMIs: "To put the growth surge in context, barring the spike in demand following the opening up of the economy after the COVID-19 lockdowns, the latest improvement in business activity is the greatest recorded since early 2015"

Asia check: the oil de-escalation leg broke. Brent settled $103.08 (+3.86%), reclaiming $100 after 2 closes below; Iran walked out of Trump's UN speech and claims strikes on US forces in Kuwait/UAE. Stagflation checkpoint fully armed: hot PMIs, 10Y 5.11%, oil >$100. BofA: $150 tail.

The Relief Lasted 48 Hours: Strong PMIs and Yields at Highs Since 2007
Activity surprises to the upside, the 10-year yield hits 5.11%, and the dollar breaks 100.19. This time the Fed isn't responding to oil alone, it's responding to the economy itself.
