#PNAS
A decade after beginning the project, Ryan McGee, Olivia Kosterlitz, Artem Kaznatcheev, Ben Kerr, and I have a paper in PNAS this week that is one of the best pieces of work I've ever been involved in.

Below, a thread about (part of) the paper.

In the new PNAS paper, we integrate mathematical population genetics with computational learning theory, and use bacterial experimental evolution to test the theory.

happy to share that our preprint graduated from bioRxiv & out now at PNAS @pnas.org

so many questions to follow up on - mechanistic, evolutionary, and everything in between... stay tuned for more transposon jumping 😆

Very interesting new paper out in PNAS looking at Long COVID and whether COVID-19 really causes all of the long-term issues we think it does.

The paper calls into question quite a bit about what people think Long COVID *is*.

PNAS is in good company with the psychoneuroendocrinology journal known as pee-neck 😁
Okay, I'm not proud of this, but:

Someone pronounced the journal as "Pee-Nass" in all seriousness during a meeting this week, and I have not stopped giggling since 🤭

Most of what science knows about sleep comes from studies of vertebrates. Jumping spiders sleep and may even dream—or, at least, exhibit REM-like behavior, including rapid retinal movements, twitching, and leg-curling. In PNAS: https://ow.ly/s99T5102sRs

The microscopic pause after PNAS 😂

Fantastic video 💯. The thing that has felt clear to me for a while now is that AI *can* be tremendously useful for learning, but most people will take the path of least resistance and will find themselves deprived of any meaningful benefits.
