Hui noodle shops are a thing in China because halal meat has better food safety standards than the PRC, and the PRC has food safety scares often enough to keep that relevant

3/ The PRC interfered with a Philippine medical evacuation at Second Thomas Shoal. The PRC is likely no longer abiding by a 2024 provisional agreement with the Philippines to allow resupply missions and is trying to make Philippine positions in the South China Sea increasingly untenable.

If you think that Taiwan can assuredly destroy the PRC to the same extent the PRC can Taiwan, I'm sorry but that is not going to happen.

New WH Press Secretary Katie Zacharia: Elon Musk is heavily invested in China. Where is his allegiance completely?

(For years, Zacharia worked in Beijing at a PRC-tied law firm)

this argument simply does not register with you people because you wont let your egos go. i thought the PRC was totally fucking wrong during the sino soviet split and now im like ok well, the PRC is still here so what now, what do we do with this? do i take it personally forever?

Sure.

Still not matching the cyber threat of the PRC though.
small models will soon be able to self-replicate

Anthropic finds that 30B models can currently do most of the tasks required, but not end-to-end.

they think models as small as 9B (9-18 GB) may be able to do it on edge hardware, like IoT devices, within months

AI models may be capable of self-replicating without access to a datacenter
Small AI models may be only months away from being able to self-replicate across cheap IoT devices like Android TV boxes, with no datacenter needed.

This is correct. And the US still possesses a Cold War inheritance that China does not.

A full nuclear exchange between the US and the PRC would most assuredly be devastating for the US and kill millions of Americans. But it would be Armageddon for the PRC.
The most key reason this also worked was that the USSR took until the late 1960s/70s to catch up to and then bypass the US in raw numbers and even then never outmatched it in ability to deliver nukes. US leaders never really appreciated this, Soviet leaders could never afford to forget it.
This was basically the Eisenhower administration's bluff in the 1950s and Kennedy's in the 1960s. The Soviet military had a massively larger conventional force, the explicit US doctrine was "massive retaliation" (that is, dropping hydrogen bombs on the Warsaw Pact) should they attempt to use it.

Taiwan is free, thanks. It's the threat of imperialism from the PRC that's the problem.

it's also objectively not true as a matter of transactional security policy, fully accounting for the last 21 months

it's probably noteworthy most of the Sturm und Drang on this is coming from atlanticist land and not from the people in/focused on the region concerned with staring down the PRC
"We're unreliable and should be treated as unreliable" is pretty reckless and defeatist considering the potential costs of this statement.

honestly speaking *as a chinese dissident* i would absolutely turn into a wumao if the PRC warred against Russia. like. 0 question immediately.

I agree with Bell on the central point but I doubt current PRC leadership will include Confucian principles in their calculations about attacking Taiwan.
October 9, 2026 at 8:15 AM
the only thing you need to know about Daniel Bell is that he thinks the PRC is Confucian

This was also why the PRC backed out of expanding the Sino-Soviet border war into a full-scale nuclear war. It was to the USSR in the late 1960s what the USSR was to the USA. And while Mao didn't care the rest of the PRC high command drew the line at collective suicide over the old Amur border.
