Just re-read Daniel Nettle's essay "What we talk about when we talk about biology" for my class on cultural evolution. If I had my druthers, it would be read aloud, in its entirely, at the start of every social science conference until they got the message. www.openbookpublishers.com/books/10.116...

As someone with stage IV cancer, you hang onto hope = research. Specifically PET PSMA and Pluvicto weren't here 2-3 years ago. I picked my oncologist as he's a Professor who offered potential of trials. Their CDC funding was cut by 85%. Chancellor said "eventually people will die because of this"

Important to distinguish #serosal findings on #PSMA 🩻vs. #parenchymal

Serosal lesions are better seen on #PSMA vs CT/MRI in #ProstateCancer but likely have an indolent course even with no 🚫therapy (even on the liver!)

Suggesting that in patients with negative PSMA PET, PLND might be unnecessary. However, long-term oncologic outcomes were not assessed.

Whole-body PET was performed w/18F-FDG, 68Ga-PSMA-617, and 68Ga-DOTATATE. IIH was found in 82.7% undergoing 18F-FDG and 68Ga-PSMA-617 scans, and 83.8% who had the follow-up 68Ga-DOTATATE scan. Of that 83.8%, 16.2% had positive lesions. 12 different mCRPC IIH phenotypes were found.

Yup, it's a sick system! Not only that, Gold OA creates its very own perverse incentives for publishers as brilliantly argued here: bsky.app/profile/psma...
As grant money starts drying up, it's more important than ever not to waste it on paying publishers' open access "article processing fees" when we can host PDFs for free. Tom Morgan and I wrote a paper on this, forthcoming at Science and Public Policy. Accepted draft here: osf.io/preprints/os...
