Important to distinguish #serosal findings on #PSMA 🩻vs. #parenchymal

Serosal lesions are better seen on #PSMA vs CT/MRI in #ProstateCancer but likely have an indolent course even with no 🚫therapy (even on the liver!)

Small vessel lymphovascular invasion and serosal surface involvement (pT4a).

Staging of these can be tricky. Lucky for me, acellular mucin involving the serosal surface (pT4a) was obvious in the first block. Not so lucky for the patient, of course.

Delighted a panel from our collaborative paper was in the hallway of the Biological Research Centre in Szeged…the dapi-stained nuclei are of the serosal cells of parasitoid wasp embryos extracted from Drosophila larvae and in green is the antibody against the humoral FusionB toxin secreted by fly…

Not the first example of indolent serosal findings on #PSMA in #ProstateCancer

This patient with serosal findings on the liver remains without parenchymal Mets in 2025. Went most of the 7 years without treatment.

It’s Christmas Eve so of course one of my “gifts” was a low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN). Our practice is to embed the entire appendix so this ran to 36 blocks. #Pathsky #Medsky

Don't forget the impact on the mesothelium of the serosal cavities and the subarachnoid space.

A patient with confirmed asymptomatic #COVID19 (negative initial PCR but positive serology) presented with acute chest pain due to large circumferential pericardial effusion, confirmed by echocardiography. The effusion resolved after pericardiocentesis and anti-inflammatory therapy.

We found that the FusionB toxin was secreted from the fat body to the host hemolymph, where it targetec the serosal tissue of parasitoids and led to increased wasp mortality by 72 hpi. To our knowledge, it is the first toxic humoral anti-parasitoid factor described in Drosophila. (5/n)

In short. Yes. I do think #serosal lesions on #PSMA in #BCR do not present an urgent clinical threat. We are evaluating this further on our ongoing study of Prospective PSMAs in BCR #ProstateCancer

Here's a case you don’t see every day! A hepatic sarcoma in a rat caused by tapeworm larvae. Taenia taeniaformis infestation with chronic inflammation and spindle-cell proliferation paves the way for neoplastic transformation.
