Blizzard is rolling back most of StarCraft II's controversial 2026 balance overhaul on the PTR, restoring the game's older state after backlash over the opening economy, worker count, and match pacing. A new round of changes is already in the works.

Blizzard has thrown Starcraft 2's dramatic balance update out of the window after four months, and a fresh attempt "is already being worked on."

The Starcraft 2 update 5.0.17 is now on the PTR, and the patch notes undo almost all the balance changes from its big multiplayer overhaul.

Hahahaha

This is what you get when the Starcraft 2 "janitor" listens to a bunch of Brood war players for SC2 changes.

Current PTR patch undoes all the changes from the "less workers" patch.

SC1 and SC2 are different beasts. Keep them that way.

CoercePointee for types that hold metadata with something else aside a ptr
I noticed that CoercePointee only works for pointers, but I have been thinking that it could be beneficial if it allowed other types aside pointers. I believe that this example would be a good use case for it: // The attribute syntax is only a sketch. What matters is that the key carries the vtable. #[derive(CoercePointee)] struct CastKey<T: ?Sized> { key: Key, #[metadata] metadata: <T as Pointee>::Metadata, } trait Entity { fn on_hit(self: CastKey<Self>, world: &mut World, damage: u32); } struct Barrel { health: u32, position: Vec2, } impl Entity for Barrel { fn on_hit(self: CastKey<Self>, world: &mut World, damage: u32) { let barrel : &mut Barrel = &mut world[self]; barrel.health = barrel.health.saturating_sub(damage); if barrel.health == 0 { let center = barrel.position; world.remove(self); // Explosion! world.hit_all_near(center, 5.0, 50); } } } while let Some((target, damage)) = world.hits.pop() { target.on_hit(&mut world, damage); } Calling a trait method on an entity stored in an arena means borrowing it from the world as a `&mut dyn Entity`, because that reference holds the vtable. However, that borrow basically locks the whole world, so the method can't also take `&mut World`. If the key holds the vtable instead, you can call the method on the key and nothing is borrowed from the world. The method gets the key and `&mut World` as separate arguments, so the borrow checker has nothing to complain about. What do you think?

Canada's new payment system, the Real-Time Rail, rolls out later this year, and promptly commits three Canadian sins:

1. Its name only makes sense to people in the payment processing industry
2. En français, it's Le système de paiement en temps réel du Canada (PTR)
3. IT HAS TWO DIFFERENT ACRONYMS

No matter what I do, the PTR *does not ever* properly keep track of what decor I've collected. I can re-add things to my collection if I re-learn them. And I am *seriously* wondering if I'm crazy enough to go collect one of every decor item in the game (that I already own) and keep them in a bank

I am so glad patch 12.1.5 isn't releasing next week..
Labyrinths have to be the most frustrating feature to test in recent PTR cycles.
The new build fixed the last broken portion of the into questline only for it to break later again. Which means it blocks testing Labs again 🙃

I need to fix this account. I think I need a new PTR record in DNS or some bullshit.

i’m not sure this actually caused a problem but there’s nothing stopping the closure given to project() from returning unrelated &'static data. that does break the assumption that ptr points inside val but since it’s 'static, ptr is still valid for as long as val is

PTR 2 just impacted me more and has more replay value, I can’t help that

Proton-Transfer Reactions Modulate Protein Ion Structure to Yield Altered Backbone Cleavage Pathways in Top-Down Mass Spectrometry
AbstractProton-transfer reaction (PTR) has emerged as a powerful tool for top-down proteomics. It can mitigate spectral congestion and improve the signal-to-noise ratio of electrospray ionization (ESI)-generated intact proteins. We hypothesized that charge removal during PTR of Coulombically unfolded, denatured ESI ions induces rapid gas-phase isomerization and refolding, producing charge-state-dependent conformers with altered fragmentation behavior. Here, we test this hypothesis by systematically comparing fragmentation patterns of three model proteins, apomyoglobin, apocalmodulin, and histone H1, with and without PTR using high-resolution top-down mass spectrometry. Highly charged precursor ions were isolated, subjected to PTR, fragmented, and benchmarked against ions of the same charge state generated directly from ESI; ions generated under native-like conditions were also examined. Quantitative analysis of assigned fragment ions and log2 fold-change heatmaps reveal distinct fragmentation patterns, with some regions showing protection from fragmentation, while others yield newly observed or substantially enhanced fragment ions. Notably, characteristic fragmentation signatures around proline and aspartic acid residues further demonstrate structural differences. These results show that protein relaxation after PTR generates different gas-phase ion structures than are formed during ESI and explain, alongside mobile proton theory, why charge reduction produces different sets of fragment ions in top-down MS/MS, but can also yield fragmentation sites otherwise unavailable for higher-charged counterparts and the same charge states generated without PTR.

Yeah lmao. When the PTR patch went live 2 weeks ago and I saw that she cost 8 euros, some red flags in me were raised.

God, free to play games are a plague.
