#PaperWasps
🐝 Paper wasps may become defensive when they perceive a threat near their nest. A colony near a door, patio, or walkway can increase unwanted encounters. If they’re nesting too close, EcoPro Services can help.

Somehow japanese paperwasps built a nest that high up and squeezed in through the windows bc they eat roaches. I'm highly allergic. 18 got inside and I was alone at the time. Partner was in japan got work. I've got some serious trauma with wasps and anything roach shaped.

I think I'm in love with your long legs. Nice work on keeping fit! Enjoy a day with the paperwasps! 🐝 🤣

Paper wasps, actually. Yellowjackets don't have the thinner waist or the dangly legs these guys have.

The good news, that probably means a smaller nest. 30-100 individuals, as opposed to thousands. The bad news, both yellowjackets and paperwasps will nest under siding in wall voids.

Found a colony of Guinea Paper Wasps (𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘴) and took a few pics! They didn't mind :)

Robberflies kinda scare me, but i think it's just because when I was a child people told me they bite and I haven't spent a lot of time around them to unlearn that fear like I have with wasps. (Paperwasps are like my bug besties. lol I will do almost anything for those guys, I love them so much.)

What an awesome topic! I love the sugarbag bees! I have some beautiful macros of them (along with paperwasps) when I lived up there.

I also honestly think spiders are becoming the lazy choice. Alternatives for creepy weaver aesthetics:
- Weaverbirds.
- Paperwasps.
- Silkworms.
- Ant queens. Some ants link into living 'carpets' to survive floods.
- Clonal colony-type things, plants or fungi.

If ya don't swat or step on em ur good! That way ya don't get the Attack pheromone on you. They're fascinating to learn about. I gotta CAREFULLY rescue silly paperwasps outta trash bags and cups at work sometimes while doing trash. I haven't angered em! But it's been a hot while.

I'm probably anthropomorphizing here, but it is an interesting question.

Morning. 😃

On the subject of insects, I assume the paperwasps are not having a good year? The queen didn't reappear so the nest failed? Or have I missed some good news posts?

🤞 she returns.

It's not like you can raise these creatures without her. And even if you could, imagine a colony of paperwasps imprinting on you. 😬

I Googled 'why do paperwasps hug' (!) and one of the results was this. Doesn't relate to hugging! but is rather interesting - if you've not already seen it. rackham.umich.edu/discover-rac...

These last few months have been a struggle. Nevertheless, I managed to sketch some random Polistes nimpha doodles. Drawing cartoony wasps always helps a bit with depression. I hope to carry on with my drawing project again soon. #Polistesnimpha #Cartoon #Expressions #Paperwasps #Hymenoptera #Wasps

Childhood memory of dahlias - they are where paperwasps hide! Gorgeous, but I'd never grow them.

I have a nest of paperwasps where we walk in from the car to the front door. Thought about moving them but they have been there 6 months and not troubled anyone. Found a visitor waving his arm in their direction today, had to warn him.
