Also, because the original was written in the 90s and it was during that peak "edge" era for DC at the time, they wanted to "shock" readers with a heel turn. They've since retconned it that paralax or whatever was corrupting him (which makes more sense given his character up till that point)

I don’t see how they could get overly het up. The broader strokes are more or less in line with comic book canon - John doing his own thing with a yellow(ish) ring, Hal dead (with Paralax options left open), Sinestro in play, Guardians being shifty, Guy still Guy so Batman can one-punch him later 🤷🏻♂️

This is due to the pixel rendering of the graphics engine, it's rendering the paralax effect in an odd way. This is as much as I can say without digging into settings or searching online. There should be a fix somewhere but this is a common thing on pokemon hack roms
