Fact of the Day: Medieval ink known as iron gall ink was made by fermenting iron salts, tree tannins, and vinegar; used for everything from legal charters to Shakespeare plays, it bonds to parchment fibers permanently until acid decay or heavy bleach finally breaks it down centuries later.

Assassin's Apprentice - Robin Hobb, 1995. Hobb is well regarded, and it's obvious why. The world is vivid, the characters interesting, and their issues and difficulties compelling. Damn fine fantasy.
