Ive realized making fun of things for being "so retro" or making fun of people being into very surface level stuff has sucked the fun out of a lot of pasttimes for me. Ive started to miss when I was a teenager and being openly into nintendo and anime was a cool novelty.

one of my favorite DnD pasttimes is creating characters based around a core gimmick or joke, but letting them develop as people from that (ie. "Three goblins in a trenchcoat!" became three deserters from the conscripted Goblin army who hide as a human bounty hunter to conceal their identity)
