100%, you kinda have an inkling of how things work, but once the question is asked and you can write out an answer, things get clearer.

I kinda wanna apply your Septopolis prompts too~💕

I am on the cusp of the group reaching Platypus Station. I yapped about that place all last month for Septopolis. Now the story is almost ready for it!

... I'm a little bit afraid.

Monday #FirstDraftFall Check-In: What aspects of story planning are you going to work on this week? Do you have a specific goal?

This past September, I participated in #Septopolis to further develop Safe Harbor, the hometown of the point-of-view character in my #CatsThePajamas fantasy novella series.

Feel free to check out the full thread if you're interested. Should you want even more, check for quote-posts.
I'm David A Ludwig, the author of the swashbuckling fantasy novella series-in-progress, #CatsThePajamas.

I'm an avid world-builder, but zooming in to the city level for #Septopolis should be interesting.

I'll try to engage with others, but expect to mostly use this as a build exercise for myself.
Good morning #Septopolis!

For our first post, we're going slow and spreading the good knowledge of the month around, as well as trying something in an attempt to make the month more manageable for myself.

If you have no idea what Septy is, please check my pinned post to avoid jumping ahead! 📌

One last revisit to #Septopolis;

While overshadowed by Port Stout, Safe Harbor would likely disappear completely in the shadow of @khonri.com's Galas Castoll with its vast size and greater commerce, infrastructure, and tourism.

Though they'd be fascinated to learn about the beluan.
The people of Safe Harbor would have no idea how to respond to @pykeredrock.bsky.social's Noyimarr being populated by anthropomorphic animals--being unaware that Elementia has such people.

But they could find common ground as cities with reduced populations, nostalgic for past glory.

Good morning, #Septopolis.

Today is the silly exercise and community engagement question!

If you've been playing solo, feel free to skip today. Otherwise, I am specifically asking you to limit yourself to two other Septy participants (especially because automod is banning/spam labeling people).
October 15, 2026 at 11:12 PM
The idea, from #Septopolis, of Safe Harbor in a holy war with @adorkablesmile.bsky.social's Amperion made me figure out their fighting capability.

The top two, non-main characters, to look out for would be Lady Bellamy herself (Lvl 10 Paladin), and Knight Captain Gregario Gallant (Lvl 10 Cavalier).
I think Amperion's rival would end up being Safe Harbour by @davidaludwig.bsky.social - if only because the priests of Borealis would want to start a holy war with your Celestial church :')
October 15, 2026 at 11:45 PM
While people try to settle things amongst themselves, Safe Harbor has a court system with lawyers and judges when legal arbitration is desired. Lady Bellamy is the highest local court authority.

Alternatively, moral arbitration is provided by the Celestial Temple. That rarely escalates.
#Septopolis
A standing army of 100 knights is garrisoned at Safe Harbor to defend the city and surrounding lands, mostly from monsters and enemy forces. They will intervene if they see or are called to imminent threats to people or property.

But most try to self-police as locally as possible.

Good morning, #Septopolis.

ACAB and all but perhaps your world actually has a functioning civil servant system. Maybe it's self policing with its community. In any case, how is order upheld and what constitutes "order?"

If it fits here... your #Juniplex system may be worth tagging in!
October 13, 2026 at 10:13 PM
The Bellamy family were among the first to support the efforts of the first queen, Ariel de Blanche, to unite the continent of Centre into single queendom.

I'm now thinking the first Lady Bellamy was, like the queen, sainted, so their scallops might be Coquilles Saint Bellamy.

#Septopolis
Lady Bellamy rules Safe Harbor.

There is also an advisory council composed of elected representatives from each district. Though all decisions are ultimately Lady Bellamy's.

The government's goal is to unobtrusively keep things running smoothly enough for its workings to go unnoticed.

Good morning, #Septopolis.

Feel free to get as detailed as you want here! Rulers and houses and senates and all that. The voting system (or lack thereof)! Name some leaders!

The second question once again draws parallel to the real world as we've all been forced to care in one way or another.
October 12, 2026 at 11:30 PM
On the topic of taxes and exemptions; across Terre Reine, Celestial Temples and their residents tend to be tax exempt.

In fact, the government pays them for their services (healing, education, etc.). While the Temple takes donations for services, they are not allowed to charge for them.
#Septopolis
Paying your taxes, or being officially exempted from them, makes you a citizen of Safe Harbor for the next year--which also makes you a citizen of Terre Reine for that period.

It's easier for citizens to be heard by the government, but it's not something that comes up for most people.

Good morning, #Septopolis.

Today's question is on the card and a new one for 2026.

I'd like to save the post space to emphasize that these questions are for fictional worlds for any stray visitors. Fictional as they may be, this can be a touchy subject with real world impacts.

Be cool. Be chill.

Another cultural highlight of Safe Harbor is the great subterranean performance hall in the dwarven quarter.

Carved deep inside the marble cliff, the hall combines elements of dwarven underground cities with Central aesthetics and nautical influences. It hosts plays, concerts, and more.
#Septopolis
These days, the Celestial Temple overlooking the city is the major repository of art and culture. There's a lot of religious statuary throughout and around the Temple.

Since Song Maester Sforzando Alighieri took up residence in the Temple, musical performance has surged in popularity.

Good morning, #Septopolis.

Let's talk some places to house and display culture. This can also include opera houses, music halls, and festival grounds too! What do they look like? Where are they in the place (rich/poor area)?

And what's the most important thing they're showing off, and why is it?
October 8, 2026 at 11:50 PM
Though I picked Safe Harbor for Melody, figuring out trading companies for #Septopolis is more relevant to Cat as a pirate.

She prefers big scores, so she'd go after the bigger companies, like Queen's Company over more local ones like Marble & Vine Co.
Which Queen's Company has since acquired.
Besides the government and the Temple, the harbor and docks remain the heart of the city.

Major trading companies retain control of docks and shipping, though individual fishing is more prominent now, but function like part of the community with no one having outstanding influence.

Good morning, #Septopolis.

Today, I'm more asking for something specific. Your Arasakas and your ACMEs. Maybe your world's "Big Four" accounting firms have taken over.

What is their role in this place? Do they drain endlessly or do they recognize their workforce and try to keep them happy?
October 7, 2026 at 10:02 PM
Centre's version of chess would be very popular in Safe Harbor.

Based on the balance between land and water, the game might focus more on control of the board, as opposed to the elimination of a specific piece.

The white cliffs around Safe Harbor are the reason white represents land.

#Septopolis
Knightly Tournaments are THE sporting event in Terre Reine. Less so in Safe Harbor specifically.

But a local passion for hand-ball games could set up for fun in Book 3. I could see the Temple reinforcing their walls rather than discourage wall-ball as the church did in our Europe.

#Septopolis

Good morning, #Septopolis.

Now let's pivot towards some fun things that keep economies chugging. Sports and pastimes are a good way to keep money flowing, and sometimes that comes from high-level, popular people making it a cultural fixture (see... football and handegg).

So what's big here?
October 4, 2026 at 9:54 PM
After a whole month of further developing Safe Harbor for #Septopolis, I now know more about their demographics than I ever intended.

30% Humans
25% Dwarves
25% Islanders (Half-Elves)
10% Sandwalkers and mixed (Orcs and half orcs)
5% Gnomes
5% Other (including Elves and Deep Folk/Halflings)
Like the rest of Terre Reine, Safe Harbor is primarily human populated. Though, as a port town, their islander and dwarven populations are higher than inland.

Of the races of the Known World, only giantkin have no significant presence. The population skews older than more modern cities.
#Septopolis
Good morning #Septopolis.

Today's question can easily sprawl on for a while depending on the diversity and size of your place and how deeply you want to go.

If you're not sure how to keep it snappy, aim for what's important to your story.

Okay, this sounds like an EXTREMELY awesome setting!

I love building around/in super-structure ruins buried by the desert. Very immediate and unique vibes.

I'm glad I'm catching up now that #Septopolis is over. Zagnat sounds awesome.

I imagine there are many paintings in Nemoria, especially in the visually stunning city of Zonhaspalis I discussed last month for #Septopolis (don't ask why this month is June but last month was September).

A final good morning for 2026, #Septopolis.

It's that day! Do as you will. I'll jingle the jar below but know that it is not out of any need.

If anything, today, I encourage you to go find a locally owned establishment in your city and buy something. Maybe learn a fact about your local history!
