This is legit my favorite thing about pentest consulting: finding that engineer who has been trying to get something fixed forever and getting their boss to listen to me

Pentesting looks so cool and then you get to do it and you discover the most powerful tool in your hacking toolbox is asking a few engineers at some manufacturer about where the known security problems are that management won't invest in getting fixed because they don't give a shit.

It literally only gave flat 85% accuracy across all conditions because it said it was a pentest and that it could have easily fluffed its own RT and choice behavior to produce any pattern it wanted…

The reason you whitelist for a pentest is because they’re time boxed. If you don’t want that time utilized efficiently then that’s your choice but wouldn’t personally be mine.
