NEW: We are going to resurrect genuine pensions for millions of private sector workers
November 2, 2026 at 11:29 PM
Higher spending on pensions (and healthcare) is a function of higher life expectancy and a more affluent society. It's happened everywhere in the developed world.
Britain's welfare ratchet.

My column for @financialtimes.com. Political incentives, rising expectations on the state & deeper economic failings make the UK's benefits system hard to rein in.

Canadian pensions. Our pensions.

"Renewable energy is cheaper than oil and gas and offers stable costs that aren’t tied to geopolitical conflict or global market volatility. Investing in clean energy advances energy security and creates the jobs and industries that will power Canada’s future."
We are wasting money and pointlessly.

High school student protests: 'Today, public spending allocates two euros to pensions for every one euro invested in the future'
High school student protests: 'Today, public spending allocates two euros to pensions for every one euro invested in the future'
The anger among high school students is partly due to the fact that a significant portion of the national education budget is dedicated to paying pensions for former civil servants and therefore does not benefit them, explains charity director Alexandre Lourié in an opinion piece for Le Monde.

A dereita quere acabar coas pensións. Nós, desde aquí, imos pararlles os pés. Máis deputados e deputadas do BNG, é menos para dereita e máis pensións.

Appreciating all the critique of this chart I do think it is quite useful for articulating the main point:

Welfare is basically just pensions, now.

They won’t cut their guaranteed pensions, though

The local pensions are insanely generous and that's why I pay the highest sales taxes in the United States.
November 2, 2026 at 9:25 PM
However they still get their pensions. Taxpayer paid pensions. Pieces of shit.

Fuck the fucking Department of Work and Pensions. Fascists.

I think it's largely been flat as a % of GDP over the last ten years if you take out pensions.

And the other thing some people don't seem to realise: pensions are a welfare benefit

Benefits Street, FFS. Most of the welfare spend is on pensions!
This is the view from the media seats on the deck of the ship. Badenoch is imminent.

bye bye pensions
November 2, 2026 at 10:21 AM
Can I call it or what. They're gonna be all "but everyone's pensions!"as if that wasn't the whole fucking reason they shoved that shit into people's pensions in the first place. You're rewarding them for forcing this shit into people's portfolios and retirement funds. Fucking insane people.

Spanish state retirement pensions will rise by €57 euros per month in 2027 according to the final CPI data for November. Social Security contribution pensions currently increase by 3.5% to 3.6%, starting January 1, 2027. Pensions are distributed over fourteen payments each year.

These principled service people are giving up their incomes and pensions to get away from the tyranny. Imagine making that sacrifice after years of dedicated service because of this idiotic administration. We are in danger without their knowledge and devotion.
