You could say that contradiction is the core conceit of Renaissance humanism. Because they adhere to the idea that older is more legitimate, and Platonist philosophy is older than the church, they adopt perennialism to wrap it into "primordial" Christianity. But this is Renaissance modernisation.

‘Conservative’ can denote the Burkean ideology, support for parties so denoted, or an attitude in line with a strictly etymological understanding of the term. These three may overlap but need not necessarily imply each other. Only in the third sense can Perennialism by said to be conservative.

It is often combined with a type of perennialism, "Mormonism was what Buddhism, Islam, etc. was, but followers changed it after their prophet died," etc. bizarre. Now that I'm 30, I can't believe some of the cultural/social things I actually used to believe AND tell people.
