100%. It’s not illegal to lie. But if it’s to slander, defame, yell fire in a crowded theater, take someone’s money, not pay taxes, or perjure, or any number of other class of lie, it IS illegal. It’d be great if there were a category of lies that so criminalized the falsehoods of our leaders.

IMO, all Senators and Congresspersons, even though they are bound by their constitutional oath, should be sworn in and reaffirm that they will not perjure themselves by making knowingly false statements against witnesses. Maybe that would stop some of this performative nonsense.
