I work in oil and gas on the upstream side. There is no meaningful increase in drilling in the continental US during this price run. Companies are prioritizing paying off debt, share buybacks, and dividends. The permian rig count is flat this year as are frack crews.

I’ll need to doublecheck. But the Permian basin vote totals looked pretty scant last night. Lotta folks sat on their hands.

Yeah, I would create a contrast between an event like the KT extinction and the Permian to show the difference between rapidity of change and the intensity of change.

This is false. In places like the Permian and the Bakken, oil is the main product and the gas that comes up along with it is a byproduct. The cost to capture this gas often exceeds the value of selling it, frequently causing prices to go negative. Not much of a financial incentive there.
