foraged dinner. pheasantbacks and morels (with a side of lambsquarters shoots) sauteed in butter with salt pepper and a lil lemon juice over jasmine rice cooked with the mushroom butter runoff. divine

also harvested more dandelions to dry, packed up the dried ones, candied the pheasantbacks, and unloaded the dishwasher. i am allowing myself one day a week (flexible) to just do Outside Stuff.

started cleaning up the garden beds, went to dog park with caye and helen, found some pheasantbacks, and now i'm gonna get some art work done! i feel amazing. sunshine and exercise are Good

stole helen's phone to take these pics bc i didn't have mine on me at the time. these pheasantbacks are HUGE. the big shelf was the size of a dinner plate. took two small ones to try and candy later 📸🍄

In the meantime, I’ll be here, hacking away Sysiphean with my used machete, harvesting wood, greens, nettles, pheasantbacks in season, picking up trash, occasionally covering up a graffiti’d dick or white supremacist dogwhistle with an antifa fist. Trying to work out how to tell this place’s story
Mammoth flush of dryad’s saddle the size of dinner plates. Unfortunately this batch is in the ancient trash midden that was full of car batteries and motor oil cans so I have a rule not to eat anything that comes out of it, especially mushrooms, but now I know to look for them elsewhere. 🌱

Pheasantbacks! I’m jealous. Haven’t come across any yet this year. Weather in Ohio has been way too weird.

OF COURSE
In terms of mushrooms we usually go for morels obviously, and the chickens, but also puffballs of various sizes and wild oyster mushrooms! Also pheasantbacks (dryad’s saddle). I’d eat honey mushrooms too but those have a higher incidence of sensitivity so I just admire instead
